Broken: A Billionaire Marriage of Convenience Romance: Manhattan Ruthless

You want to know the secret to everlasting happiness?

Never fall in love.

That was the wisdom my father imparted to us James boys after our mom died, and it’s a piece of advice that’s served me well.

Until dear old Dad asks me for a favor over Sunday brunch. No big deal, right? I love making my old man happy. Except this “favor” is a lot more complicated than picking up his dry cleaning. Dad wants me to marry and provide a few heirs for the James empire, and he’s even done me the courtesy of handpicking my bride-to-be. Lucky me.

But if I’m being honest, I’ve grown tired of the endless cycle of dating, the constant small talk, and the ever-shrinking pool of women I haven’t already invited for a sleepover.

I’m a lawyer, so contracts are kind of my thing. And that’s all marriage really is—a contract negotiated between two parties. What could possibly go wrong?

Enter Melanie Edison, the five-foot-four brunette with curves in ALL the right places. A veterinary nurse with the smartest mouth I’ve ever heard. And I have more fun not dating her than I did dating any woman before, even with Melanie’s absurd no-sex-before-marriage rule.

But when our business arrangement becomes so much more, I end up breaking my most important rule. And that’s when it all goes to hell.

I have no idea how we can ever repair the damage that’s been done. I’m not even sure I want to. And maybe going back to my old life won’t be so hard.

Except it’s too late. I broke my rule.

And she broke me.

I am completely done for! These characters and this story was so deliciously addictive, I could not get enough. Perfect start to this new series and everything a first book in the series should have. Grabs your attention and keeps you wanting more from the side characters, craving each one of their stories and their HEAs.

Nathan and Melanie’s characters were complete perfection in true Sadie Kincaid way. Loved Melanie for her strength and the way her confidence changed and grew through the story. That girl brought out one ugly cry for sure. Nathan, oh my heart! That man is everything! Sweet, broody, cold Ice Man, vicious when he needs to, dirty talker who can definitely back those words up, and so much more. Had me wishing for a Nathan of my own! Couldn't get enough of these two and their emotional roller-coaster ride.

“Nobody has ever made me feel like this.” I bite down on the soft skin of her neck. “And nobody ever will, corazón. You’re mine.”

It's hard not to absorb every emotion coming from each of these characters. Sadie Kincaid has a great talent to bring her characters to life in each book she writes. Whatever they go through, you feel it with them as if you were right there going through everything with them, and Broken is no exception.

Amazingly written in dual pov with its own HEA. Broken is book 1 in the new spin-off, Manhattan Ruthless series. Can be read as a standalone, but I'm already feigning for the next one.

Loved Nate & Mel

Loved this book. A little bit of laughs, a little bit of heartache, and a whole heap of spice. Perfection. Fun little banter too.

This book had me wrapped in from the get go. And I stayed interested throughout it. I had all of the feels while reading this.

Nathan & Melanie were both great characters. Melanie might be one of my fave FMCs written by Sadie Kincaid now. She was such a strong & smart character. Nathan might not have been a mafia man as Sadie typically writes but he's still as delicious (maybe even more than some of the previous MMCs). I loved his family too. I was a bit hesitant on Dalton, his dad, at first but I quickly grew to love him. I loved Nate's relationship with his brothers too and I can't wait to get to know them better. Especially Maddox & Elijah.

Emotional Rollercoaster

I am an avid fan of Sadie Kincaid, the characters that she creates are relatable and honest. Nathan James and Melanie Edison are no exception and Broken is one of my top reads of the year.

Nathan James has sworn off love, he’s beyond successful in life and doesn’t need love complicating that. Until a conversation with his father takes a sharp left and all of a sudden he’s talking marriage. Enter Melanie Edison, veterinarian nurse and heiress to a struggling company. They both want the same things - to get their families off their backs and a future that involves children that can carry on the James family legacy. The union between them is supposed to be one of convenience, friendship if they’re lucky.

Love wasn’t written in the contract, but it always has a way of making everything difficult.

Nathan James, this man. He’s intense and honest. From the moment he and Mel meet he lays all his cards on the table and never once tries to play her for a fool. He recognizes her beauty, not just on the outside, but her soft heart and is instantly drawn to her kindness and the love she gives to everyone so freely. He sees her to the core, and I fell in love with the way he catered to her soft heart in so many different ways. I loved the way he found himself falling for her and didn’t do anything to stop himself. I loved the way he was protective and over the top, demanding and oh so intense, and still allowed her to be her feisty self. He never smothered her spirit, he was the one who wanted to see it flourish the most.

Mel is so soft, one of the softest characters I’ve read by Sadie Kincaid. I loved getting to know her. I loved all her quirks and the way she surrounded herself with people who truly loved her and gave it back to them tenfold. She was always so willing to put herself on the back burner, always so willing to take the short end of the stick so someone else didn’t have to. She was selfless, but not in an annoying way, in an honest way. Her past has controlled her life for so long, and she’s willing to pay the price for it until she no longer has to.

There’s a lot of emotion in this book, intense emotion, from one end of the spectrum to another. There were times I was giggling and kicking my feet and times that tears were streaming down my face. The honesty that Sadie Kincaid is always able to deliver is impeccable, I love being able to relate to characters (regardless of the trope I’m reading) and this story absolutely blew me out of the water.

Iceman & Spitfire forever have my heart.

MF Romance Marriage of Convenience Morally Grey MMC Touch Her & ☠️ Friends To Lovers Found Family Mature Aged Characters (38H/30h) Spicy

Broken is book one in the Manhattan Ruthless series.

Nathan James is a hot shot lawyer for some of the country’s most infamous morally flexible citizens. He’s rich, gorgeous, and has everything a man could want but when his father proposes a marriage of convenience, he actually considers the idea. The endless dating cycle is getting old. A marriage run exactly like a business deal seems like a sound idea.

Melanie has the pedigree required but not the desire for such an arrangement. With unyielding family pressure, she agrees to meet Nathan and the two come to an understanding. She’s used to sacrificing her own needs for those of her family.

Nathan and Mel have intense chemistry, great banter, and a fantastic friends to lovers story. With Nathan’s unwavering support, Mel really comes into her own and shines. Nathan is the epitome of possessive, obsessive book boyfriends. The two face family dynamics and drama that threaten their relationship and happiness. It’s truly an us-against-the-world story that will touch your heart and keep you reading past your bedtime. You feel their emotions and want nothing more than for them to achieve their dreams. Prepare for all the feels.

The secondary characters were great additions and I look forward to reading more about them in future books.

If you are looking for a book to get you out of a reading slump, LOOK NO FURHTER. Nathan James has entered the chat!!! Gah!!!!! I cannot say enough good things about this book. I read it in 2 days. Nathan James is one of the best male characters Sadie has written and that is saying something! The chemistry between Nathan and Melanie is undeniable. I love the way Mel and Nate just fit together without even knowing each other that well. It was such a whirlwind of emotions. I never cry reading stories but this one got me right in the heart. The way these two love each other is so cute!! Their banter and flirting is top tier. I love how protective Nate is of Melanie especially with her brother. The way the James family just opens their arms to Mel and her sister is truly something special. The way they conquer things that come their way is phenomenal.

You will not regret reading this! It is book 1 in a series that is incomplete and there are slight crossovers from other series but Sadie makes everything easy to follow. Broken can be read as a standalone.

Yet another 5 Star read with 4 jalapeno spiciness! I can't wait for the rest of the James brothers' stories to come out!

Melanie and Nathan are everything

Broken is the first book in the Manhattan Ruthless series. It follows Melanie Edison, a veterinary nurse with a broken past and Nathan James, a playboy, high-powered lawyer with some of the most ruthless connections.

I literally devoured this book! If you have read Sadie’s other series, then you would have seen bits of Nathan before, and I was SO excited to read his story. I was correct to be excited because Nathan James is a new book boyfriend of mine for sure!!

Nathan is broody, sweet, ice, loyal, and protective!! He would not let anything happen to Mel. Mel is sweet, confident, and strong, and no matter what is thrown her way, she keeps rising above it.

The main characters had this instant connection that I loved, and right from the start, Nathan was protective of Melanie. One of my favorite scenes in the book was with the other James brothers, Nathan and Melanie. The brothers were having a mashed potato debate and brought Melanie into the fold to ask her what her vote was. She voted correctly, in my opinion. I laughed so hard at the banter during this scene and even throughout the whole book.

The writing of this book and character development was absolutely fantastic! I loved every minute, even if some people (Mel’s family) made me really mad. I was on a roller coaster of emotions the entire way through, but I would not change a thing! I loved seeing all of the Easter eggs that Sadie dropped in this book. I literally squealed at who made some appearances.

You will not regret picking this book up! Broken can be read as a standalone, but I am already looking forward to reading about the rest of the James brothers!

Next level angst

My gosh I loved this book!!!

The angst in this book was gloriously delicious!!! Absolutely packed full of it with the best banter!!! Sadie nailed it.

I loved the growth that both of these characters showed. There couldn't have been a better name for a book!

It VERY rare that a book can make me cry! But watching these to navigate everything that is continually thrown at me had me crying. Especially one particular part. (IYKYK) I also very much suggest checking trgger wrnings. Sadie handled this topic with so much care and I absolutely loved seeing these two characters find comfort in one another instead of pushing each other away! It absolutely gutted me.

Let's talk about the characters Sadie flawlessly brought to life!!!

Even though focused together I loved how both of these characters were willing to put everything into the marriage and life they were creating. I lived for thr banter and the constant flirting!

Nathan YOU BEAUTIFUL MAN YOU!!! This man knew how to right all his wrongs. He apologized. He groveled. He protected her. This man was the full package. The way he unloaded his heart to her over and over again once he let go and was all in had me swooning so hard!

"But I understand that I’m not an island anymore, and I will try to do better.”

I found myself internally screaming so many times! THIS MAN!!

Melanie. This girl was strong. She poured everything she had into everything she did. I adored her character so much. My heart broke for her so many times. And I'm still not sure her brother got what he deserved. I was kinda routing for Nathan for end him. But I hope we find out that his life is more and more miserable in coming books.

"Love doesn’t care how much time we have. It just takes its happiness where it can find it."

I love the closeness of the James family! These brothers were so sweet together. And I look forward to their books!

And I loved all the easter eggs!!!

Love love love Sadie Kincaid's book and Broken did not disappoint with Nathan and Mel.

I devoured this book and loved the story line with a marriage of convenience, a toxic family, strong female, alpha male, and more.

The plot was good The spice was on point And I am always a sucker for pregnancy tropes (this is not the main trope!!)
