The third installment in the beloved and New York Times bestselling series from Richard Osman, also author of We Solve Murders

“The quartet of aging amateur sleuths…remain wonderful company.” —The New York Times Book Review

It is an ordinary Thursday, and things should finally be returning to normal. Except trouble is never far away where the Thursday Murder Club are concerned. A decade-old cold case—their favorite kind--leads them to a local news legend and a murder with no body and no answers.

Then a new foe pays Elizabeth a visit. Her mission? Kill or be killed. Suddenly the cold case has become red hot.

While Elizabeth wrestles with her conscience (and a gun), Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim chase down the clues with help from old friends and new. But can the gang solve the mystery and save Elizabeth before the murderer strikes again?

From an upmarket spa to a prison cell complete with espresso machine to a luxury penthouse high in the sky, this third adventure of the Thursday Murder Club is full of the cleverness, intrigue, and irresistible charm that readers have come to expect from Richard Osman’s bestselling series.

I have never read a book series so quickly and enjoyed it so absolutely thoroughly!!! Ditto all of this for my mom. His writing is engaging, so darn funny, and brilliant. The characters become your friends. And the mysteries keep you engaged til the end. I can’t wait to read them all again asap. And keep them on my shelf, which is a big compliment.

wisdom for the young from the elderly

This might very well be the best so far of the series.

We have two new characters: The Viking and Victor. I immediately fell in love with both.

But the main thing is the wonderful insights into life and relationships that young people normally just don't understand, but I can appreciate at my age.

"People drift in and out of your life, and when you are younger, you know that you will see them again. But now every old friend is a miracle." As a military wife who moved 19 times in 30 years, I had a lot of people drift in and out of my life. I didn't always KNOW that I would see them again: many I HOPED I would see again. And sometimes I did and sometimes I didn't. But I do have a very few close old friends and they are miracles in my life.

The second observation is similar. You always know when you're doing something for the first time, but you rarely know when you're doing it for the last time. As I get older, I am better able to discern some of those times - when I leave a place and am certain I will never go back (Frost's Road Not Traveled?) but one can almost never know when the last time you see a friend will happen! (I just saw him a week ago at lunch! Everything was fine!)

These things are things that should be learned and remember by young people so that can fully appreciate their lives and live fully in the present because there is no guarantee of the future.

I love these Characters!

Delightful read! This series is so uplifting and fun to read. Not only are these myriad characters unique and well developed, you just fall in love with each of them. And with this installment we have some new interesting players in the mix. As an octogenarian, I genuinely appreciate these “old folks” being so savvy, smart, courageous, fun and funny. This is story telling at its finest without being ostentatious.

This series hits all the boxes for an entertaining story and mystery.

TOTALLY DELIGHTFUL BOOK/SERIES

I LOVED this series. I am just finishing book three and have purchased book four. I am a bit sad that book four is the last book in the series so far. I normally read when I go to bed and usually fall asleep after reading about four pages of other books. This series keeps me awake reading because I can't wait to see what the story plot is going to reveal next. The characters in this series are each delightful and Mr. Osman has done a superb job of character development for everyone in his story. I love how there are so many surprises in each book. I have not enjoyed a series this much in a very long time. BRAVO to Mr. Osman for writing such an entertaining series. I could never figure out "who done it" in any of his books (and I'm usually very good at figuring out the villain). I am so looking forward to more adventures of the Thursday Murder Club in the future.

Absolutely Brilliant and Fun Mystery Book #3 in this Series!!!!

Absolutely the best narrated mystery I have heard since I read/heard the first and second books in this series!

The characters are now BFF's, and I root for them at every turn.

This book has so many twists, turns and twists again, and at the end it all is revealed.

I had no idea who the murderer was, nor why, but it all made sense in the end.

Richard Osman? Brilliant!!!...Simply brilliant!!!

I was missing narrator Lesley Manville at first, but when I realized that actress Fiona Shaw is the narrator of this book, I got into it, and I can truly say I loved the way she acted it.

I will be listening to the fourth book in the series: The Last Devil to Die, and on September 17th., I will start listening to We Solve Murders, the fifth book's publication date!

“It’s the people, in the end, isn’t it?” says Viktor. “It’s always the people. You can move halfway around the world to find your perfect life, move to Australia if you like, but it always comes down to the people you meet.” ✨ ✨ In the third Thursday Murder Club book a decade old murder cold case with no body has caught the attention of our favorite retirees. If that’s not enough excitement, Elizabeth is being tasked with murdering a man or else Joyce’s life will be on the line. The crew will lead us to a slew of interesting locations and individuals as they attempt to solve the case. ✨ ✨ Osman has once again shown his prowess as blending seemingly unlinked story lines into one cohesive novel. This has continued to be one of my favorite aspects of the Thursday Murder Club books — seeing how all of the loose threads get resolved. Although, while enjoyable, I do feel like the overall plot wasn’t as good as the previous two books. With that said, the characters themselves continue to shine and sell the series. I love seeing what mayhem the retirees manage to find themselves in all while battling modern technologies. While not one of the core four, Bogden has easily become one of my favorite if not favorite characters. Joyce is my other favorite. Her interactions are always funny and wholesome. In this particular installment, her interactions with the Viking are just perfect. If you’re a fan of murder mysteries, this series is definitely work checking out.
