He’s the reason she’s in here. She knows it. She remembers what he did. Clearly as anything.

But there are things Shelley has forgotten too, including parts of her childhood. And as those start to come back to her, so do other memories. Ones with the power to change everything.

But can she trust these new memories, or what anyone around her is telling her? And who is the mysterious hospital volunteer who brings her food and keeps making her smile? Is it possible to find your future when you're confused about your past?

Incredible story, I always looked forward to a few minutes here and there to escape into this book. It is a terrifying topic, domestic violence. I loved the strength and love that this book embodied.

This is a very poignant story of the abuse some women go through in bad relationships. It makes you realize how women can stay in these relationships even when being hurt badly by their spouses. And it’s also the story of how they can overcome the trauma and get out of those relationships and find true love and healing. Highly recommended reading!

Although there were times when the pace felt a bit slow, I found this an easy read, and fairly well-written. I was quite satisfied with how things turned out, and would recommend.

This book was okay. The suspense felt a little gimmicky. The subject matter was important and I’m glad the book exists. I expect there are many who love this author but her books don’t do it for me. Characters lack depth imho. It was an okay read but I was more compelled by wanting to solve the mystery than by feeling connected to the people involved.

"But he might have changed. I have to believe he might have."

I usually prefer to start books, not knowing anything about them. I like to discover as I go.

This is a book I wish I had had a brief alert to. I know I am not alone in having had a toxic relationship, and this book brought back A LOT of feels and memories I thought I had FINALLY lost and forgotten for good.

While the strength and resilience of the protagonist is inspiring, getting there was a long, difficult, and confusing story. Especially as it jumped back and forth between then and now.

My sister also had a couple very toxic, abusive relationships and I don't believe she would be able to read this book long enough to get past the painful pages to reach the strength and inspiration.

I love Laura Pearson's novels, but this one is a struggle for me.
