A Fall from Grace: A Nicole Rayburn Historical Mystery Book 6 (Nicole Rayburn Historical Mysteries)

825 global ratings

When Nicole Rayburn adds a historic bookshop to her list of promotional venues, she meets the owner, Deborah Dolan, who’s desperate to discover what happened to her Victorian ancestor. A well-respected playwright, Edgar Hilliard seemingly had it all: professional success, a thriving business, and a loving family, but according to family lore, Edgar walked out one night, never to return, an unfinished manuscript his only legacy to future generations.

Deborah’s obsession with Edgar borders on the unhealthy, but despite her better judgment, Nicole can’t seem to walk away from this new challenge and enlists the help of her friend, Dr. Quinn Allenby to solve the mystery. Nicole and Quinn are determined to discover what happened to Edgar, but their search for answers is hindered by unexpected personal obstacles that threaten to alter the course of their lives forever.

Irina particularly enjoys stories set in the past, where the characters must navigate the volatile political climates of their time while still managing to live, love, and cause mischief.

Irina has always had a particular fascination with the paranormal, and explores some of these themes in her books. She believes that nothing is truly impossible; true love can transcend space and time, and live on forever.

I love the stories that blend characters from several series. Nicole and Quinn work so well together and it was warming to see how this was resolved. I always love Ms. Shapiro’s books and wait eagerly for each one. Sure makes me glad I didn’t live in the Victorian era of England..I would not have fared well!

I just binged all 6 of this series and hope there will be more in the future. These books are a fun read. Up until now this really has not been my genre. Historical fiction about medieval subjects is my go to. It feels like you are taken on a creative journey with an author as she researches for his next book. The time switching back and forth is done so well I had no problem following the stories. The main characters are so normal you feel like they could live next door. I enjoyed this so much I am now going to look for the Echoes of the Past series. I recommend this author to anyone interested in history, mystery and writing.

A little bit frustrating

(Possible Spoilers)

I devoured this book and loved both the present and historical storylines. However, I was pretty letdown at the ending of the historical story. It was rather bleak and felt incomplete. I know not everything is a happy ending, but the ending of the historical storyline in the Rayburn series typically ends in a much more satisfying way.

I don't want to give the story line or ending away, but I hoped for a bit more before the end.
