An FBI agent tracks a brilliant serial killer in New York—right back to her own cold-blooded past in a riveting thriller by the Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Cipher.

FBI Special Agent Daniela “Dani” Vega was seventeen when her mother murdered her father. Ten years after Dani’s own damning eyewitness testimony sealed her mother’s fate, she’s starting to have doubts. What if she got it all wrong?

A veteran NYPD homicide detective agrees to reopen the closed case on one condition—Dani must help him find a serial killer who’s been operating throughout New York City for the past decade. If anyone can decipher his patterns, and his riddles, it’s a trained codebreaker like Dani. The killer knows this too. And his next riddle—and victim—is meant just for her.

For Dani, stopping a killer—and learning what really happened to her father—becomes more personal and more dangerous with each new twist. As secrets of the past are unearthed, the truth could forever change Dani’s life…and the lives of everyone she loves.

Amazing!! I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook. My goodness all the information I learn in this book! I have to mention I read the first book in this series and I like it. It was great, but Isabela “la saco del play” with this one. Super interesting, Daniela Vega is an FBI agent, her mother is at a mental facility after allegedly having killed her husband, Daniela’s dad. Daniela is looking for information about her dad’s murder case after her mom has a lucid moment and tells her that she did not kill him. For Daniela it becomes very important to open the case and investigate what really happened that day. While searching and looking for more info Daniela finds leading information for what seems to be a series of deaths linked to the same serial killer. She begins to investigate and this character is just a freaking champion, I love how the author made her so cold and thoughtful under pressure, I loved every scene were Daniela was under pressure and working to solve a code or a pattern, pretty freaking cool how the author portrayed all that in this book.

I loved every minute of this book. Even more than I enjoyed book #1. I'm hopeful that there will be a Dani Vega book #3. I'm very excited to have found this author. As someone who preorders books a year in advance. I would gladly add this author into my pre orders.

I had a hard time getting into this book at the beginning. I kept wanting to compare it to the first. I had high standards for this 2nd book. It took for me to put it down, read a romance novel and get back to this book with zero expectations. With a clear mind I was finally sucked in. It was suspenseful, nerve wrecking, kept me at edge of my seat. You are in for a roller coast of a ride!

Fast-paced procedural worthy for TV

I enjoyed reading this second book in the Daniela Vega series from the very beginning until the end. I finished it in almost one sitting because the story didn't let me go. Just wanted to see how this game of cat and mouse would end. Daniela is a fantastic well-developed character who is a great opponent of the bad guys with an excellent and sharp mind that solves code and sees patterns when others don't. The story itself is like a fast train that starts at a somewhat normal speed and goes faster and faster while keeping you on the edge of your seat. I wished my eyes were trained to read faster just to see what would happen next. The personal connection with the other cases was a nice touch and gave more depth to the story. While reading I was impressed by the explanation of the procedures for solving the cases, even though this is not my first book by Isabella Maldonado, this is the first time I've searched her background and found out that she worked at the FBI, and she knows this from her own experience. I highly recommend this book and the other ones by this author to everyone who wants to read fast-paced procedurals with strong female characters who are fighting against serial killers and other criminals.
