The Friend Zone

4.3 out of 5

29,108 global ratings

A slow burn, hilarious and heartwarming romantic comedy that Tessa Bailey calls "a romance for the ages!" from the New York Times bestselling author of Yours Truly.

Kristen Peterson doesn't do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don't get her. She's also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children.

Planning her best friend's wedding is bittersweet for Kristen -- especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He's funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family someday. Kristen knows he'd be better off with someone else, but as their attraction grows, it's harder and harder to keep him at arm's length.

The Friend Zone will have you laughing one moment and grabbing for tissues the next as it tackles the realities of infertility and loss with wit, heart, and a lot of sass.

"Your next favorite romantic comedy...The Friend Zone is that rare beach read with tons of heart that will make you laugh and cry in equal parts." ---PopSugar

"Your next rom-com to obsess and cry over." ---Cosmopolitan

On a whim I decided to try this recently recommended book. Romance isn’t usually what I would read but I needed a change from my typical suspense novel. Well written, I really enjoyed the characters. I was immersed into their world and enjoyed the break from mine. Shoot now I’m going to read the next one, guess romance novels are my thing

I've been reading so much lately that everything just kinda blended together. This book will never just blend in with the others. It's emotional, it's fun, is frustrating, is so lighthearted, it's sad, it's happy. ITS ALL THE FEELS! I very much recommend this beautifully written tale!

well, since Dumbledore died. What a roller coaster, in the very best ways. The characters were as real as they could get, and what they went through? Well, strap in, honeycakes. You ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.

When the love story got to what felt like the resolution - no spoilers here - I looked at the “progress” bar on my Kindle app and saw I was less than half way. I couldn’t conceive of what could possibly take so long to resolve the issues where they were. Yet everything that happened after, though each event was entirely unexpected, felt real. I understood, on a deep, gut-wrenching level, why everything had to work out as it did. Never once did I get that, “These people are stupids. If they just talked to each other, there wouldn’t BE a problem,” feeling.

Best book I’ve read in a long time, but not just a happy rom-com romp. Keep an entire box of tissues ready. You have been warned. But if you like great writing, do yourself a favor and read this book.

You've always Been my sun

I am almost ashamed to say this was my first read by Abby Jimenez. I knew who she was, I've been a reader for a long time and she's been on my tbr for a long time but I just never seemed to bump her up my list. Boy was I wrong not to because I have been missing out.

Kristen Peterson is made of honor for her best friend Sloane. Sloane's fiancee's best friend Josh Copeland is the best man. Kristen and Josh bump into each other before they officially meet, its funny and sets up their relationship pretty well.

This book has it all, the humor, sarcasm, slow burn relationship, the heat, the heart break and of course the hea.

I laughed so hard at times I was crying and I cried so hard at times I was sobbing. I have definitely moved the rest of her books up on my tbr.

This author knows true love.

I've been lucky enough to be married to my best friend, my piece of comfort in a scary world, for over 20 years. We've had 2 children, lost one, we've both cared for then lost a parent & even almost lost each other.

I would not change a single thing.

This story is the true embodiment of real, unending love. It's captured so perfectly & while you'll definitely need tissues, it's also very funny. Both beautiful & heartbreaking in equal measure.

My husband has been trying to tell me for the last two decades that he loves every part of me, every scar & stretch mark & after finishing this story, I'm actually starting to believe him.

Just read it. And hold out for this kind of relationship. It's out there.

This was my first Abby Jimenez book and it did not disappoint. I loooove a good friends to lovers trope and I ate this one up!!! Ms Kristen and Josh were funny and cute… I really loved them together. But man…Sloan and Brandon… wooow Ms. Abby didn’t come to play because you definitely laugh and cry while reading this story and she wrote it sooo well!! My only complaint was how annoying and repetitive Kristen was being towards Josh when it came towards their relationship. She was more soo trying to talk her self out of the relationship than Josh because he wasn’t having it!!! But other than that I loooved this book and I can’t wait to step back into this series!!!

Similar to the others but....

Once you've read one of Abby's books, you get the vibe. However (and I mean this in a good way), each book has a twist that makes it worth reading to the end. The books are light and a little formulaic but they still have some emotional heft. Consider her books easy reading and take them to the pool or the beach with you. Just be prepared that you might get emotional here and there when you empathize with the characters because they feel VERY real.

Loved this story!!

I love Abby's books. They're funny while also romantic and sometimes a tearjerker!! I really loved this story and would have given it 5 stars except for the repetition of Kristen's circumstances. POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW**

She really gets redundant with Kristen's health circumstances sometimes and it's really annoying how many times it's mentioned why Kristen won't let herself be with Josh. It made me not like her character very much at all at times. Other than that, it's a really, really great book! I do recommend

I read the whole thing...

I liked the end of this story but I'm not100% sure how I made it that far. I suppose it was just interesting enough to read through the first 75%, which was very long and drawn out. What made it painful was that the main characters--especially our heroine--were RIDICULOUS! And since the heroine didn't handle her conflict in a way that was consistent with her personality, it was hard to buy into the story line. But again, if you can get through the first 75%, the end picks up and is worth the read.
