God of Malice: A Dark College Romance (Legacy of Gods)

4.4 out of 5

37,740 global ratings

From USA Today bestselling author Rina Kent comes a new STANDALONE dark romance about a villain and his new obsession.

I caught the attention of a monster.

I didn’t ask for it.

Didn’t even see it coming.

But the moment I do, it’s too late.

Killian Carson is a predator wrapped in sophisticated charm.

He’s cold-blooded, manipulative, and savage.

The worst part is that no one sees his devil side.

I do.

And that will cost me everything.

I run, but the thing about monsters?

They always chase.

This book is a dark unconventional romance and contains themes that aren't to everyone's liking. Please check the author's note for content warnings before reading.

I wish I could give this more than 5 stars

This book…where do I ever begin. The writing is absolutely superb. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed reading a book as much as I did this one. At least not for a while. There are some books that have absolutely zero story and nothing but sex, sex, sex, and though there was a lot of it, there WAS a story here. Didn’t think I’d fall in love with Killian Carson either or find myself enjoying his sadistic, non-con tendencies and just how hot it was. Why can’t I give this more than 5 stars? It was perfect. This book is absolutely perfect. I’m definitely going to consume the rest of this series.

The villain I wasn't prepared for

I've read other books where the villain falls in love, and our heroine falls for a monster, but none of them prepared me for the brutality of Killian. The first couple chapters really made me wonder how this character was going to find a HEA, if we even got a happy ending at all. Rina Kent makes you love his twisted heart and understand what's on the insides. I also really liked the chapters from the parents perspective but didn't realize until after that the parents have their own series so I guess I'll continue this series because now I'm invested and then I'll back track to the past. I looked ahead to see who gets paired up for the rest of the books and I loved the foreshadowing of some of the more surprising couples. Great sound track on Spotify too!

This book was everything I didn't expect!

Getting an itch for something dark and twisted with my romance, I though this would be the perfect time to snag God of Malice, a book I had often heard others mentioning through the vines. I was worried dlthis would be one of those overly hyped reads that would sizzle out half way through. Thank heaven's this didn't disappoint!

This isn't a sweet as roses type of book, not even a shade of gray. The OTT need Killian has for Glyn is intense and watching it all unfold, seeing the changes, it was a roller coaster. This book all about the tug of war these souls had for one another.

I felt that it could have been a shortened story for sure but the banter was just too good to pass up.

Killian Carson is a man after my ❤️

“Caught a little rabbit tonight and I decided to keep it”

On my second read through and 3rd way I’ve devoured this book and I still love Killian Patrick Carson. Is he a villain? Yes. Is he a true psychopath? Yes. But he will burn the world down for Glyndon and stop at nothing to protect her. Do not even think about touching what is his or it might get bloody.

“There’s nothing noble or tender about what I feel for you. It’s a violent volcano of obsession, possession, and deranged lust.”

💋𝓚𝓲𝓵𝓵𝓲𝓪𝓷, a genius, 19 year old med student, founding member of a secret society at Kings U (The Heathens), but also a psychopath who is forced to repress and display learned behavior to maintain his control. Until 𝓖𝓵𝔂𝓷𝓭𝓸𝓷, she tests his impulse control, his psyche, but to his surprise she also maintains his interest and becomes a fixation.

“Listen carefully, baby. I’ll never let you go.”

🎨𝓖𝓵𝔂𝓷𝓭𝓸𝓷, an “subpar” artist, student at REU, “least” favorite child, still reeling from her friends recent death she is on the brink of jumping to abandon the pain, instead she comes face to face with a monster, 𝓚𝓲𝓵𝓵𝓲𝓪𝓷. Despite her objects she can’t escape his hold, but hey sometimes you fall for the villain.

“Not all girls like the hero. I was fated to fall in love with the villain.”

This is book one in the Legacy of Gods series and there is something about an obsessive/possessive man that makes me swoon. It’s all in the presentation and Rina did it perfectly. Killian may be a psychopath, but he considers Glyndon, her feelings and how scenarios may impact her. He’s not soft for her by any means but he doesn’t want to be the reason she’s hurt, disappointed or disgusted. She is his purpose, his safe place and 100% his in every sense of the word.

Honestly if you haven’t read this book yet you need to, I mean it has everything, there is a reason I came back to it a 3rd time. Killian Carson remains at the top of my list for book boyfriends.

“I’ll make sure you always choose me as much as I choose you.”

loved this book

If you know me you have to know I love books when the MMC it’s bad and toxic and what is better than a diagnosed psychopath, I loved reading Killian’s intern monologue, and how even when he recognizes emotions he does not understand them or feel them. I loved Jonathan’s and Levi’s cameos, since they are one of my favorites on the whole Rinaverse, my heart beats for the King’s men, however even when I loved Asher on his book I truly hated him as a father, Glyndon was fine a little annoying sometimes but hey she fell in love with a psychopath and I can understand the internal war she was going thru because she knows what he is capable of and was fighting with her sense of good and bad, her feelings for him and her own depression and anxiety. I ate this book up, I LOVE KILLIAN TO PIECES and I can’t wait to read Landon’s and Eli’s books ❤️

so dark

This is one of the best dark romance I’ve ever read. It reminds me of a darker (and straighter) version of “haven hart” series by Davidson King. I like the writing, the storyline is great, the character development is very good, and if you like rough sex scenes this is very much the book for you. And who doesn’t love a book that comes with its own playlist? I loved the music and it really set the tone to what I was reading.

⭐️ 3.5/5 🌶️ 3/5 🎧 3.5/5

So I hyped myself up to start this series and if I’m being honest, I was a little disappointed. Now, I do have a few people tell me I need to push thru and it gets better after book 2… but I’m gonna have to think about it for a little bit. Overall, it wasn’t a bad book, but for me personally, it took way too long for Glyn to accept or admit that she wanted to be with Killian and actually say it out loud. And for them to finally say they love each other took just about as long. I think we were easily past 90% before those two things happened and for me personally, they played around too much and took too long. I also figured out the plot twist before it happened. I think my problem was I put this series off for so long and hyped myself up that I expected perfection. But to each their own, right?? Don’t come at me! 🫣😂

****start from the beging of the Rinaverse. The elders stories will help understanding these kids.

4 Stars dispite the first half of this book feeling like it was a rewrite of Penelope Douglass Devil's Night Series. - so if you liked this and haven't read it yet, go read it.

Rina redeamed herself with Killion. Boy did he shine. Her girls never have enough of a backbone for me, but boy can she write a troubled man. I hope that changes with the Russian Princess story.

Worth the read.

What a crazy ride

I am having such a hard time rating this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 (3.5) 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 (3.5)

Honestly I give the concept and actual story a 4.0 if not a bit higher. I think it’s really interesting to see such mentally diverse characters. My issue with the book was actually the authors writing, but again I’m so torn because I actually really liked the story. To anyone contemplating reading it, do it, BUT.. the trigger warnings are very accurate. As an example, if you read Haunting Adeline and didn’t like it.. I can almost guarantee this book isn’t for you. I’m like 80% sure.

Likes: Again, liked the story a lot. Very different from anything I have ever read. Loved the side characters focus and the early build into relationships that will obviously turn into their own books. I imagine I will continue to enjoy this series as I get to know the characters more and more before I read their actual books. I also liked bringing the parents POV into the mix, although I didn’t realize until a quarter of the way through this series is about the children of characters in a previous series. I may backtrack and read those first as this book contains small spoilers of those. Also actually liked the way the author seemed to stay true to who Killian was and how he works. We didn’t get some huge romanticized version of him and I’m happy about that as it would have felt fake otherwise. Spice was actually pretty good but I only gave it a 3.5 due to it being open door and mostly just rough. It wasn’t the most descriptive which is what I personally prefer, so I gotta save my 4.0-5.0’s. No issues with this spice though. I felt it was pretty fitting for the characters.

Dislikes: Okay. The writing in general seemed clunky to me. The author seemed to want to use classic “teen” language, using words like “totally” and “like”, to the point I felt like I was reading a 16 year olds diary, and some British phrases and cursing seemed forced like she went back and added them because she thought that’s what a British person or 19 year old would say. There were also quite a few typos, like you’re instead of your or the blatant misspelling of the word ill-fated. To be even more picky, she used the phrase “in retrospect” 5 times in the book and I’m pretty sure about half those times didn’t actually use the phrase correctly. Character wise I think she was almost could have gone deeper with Glyndons character. I feel like I never really was invested in her as a person the way I was with Killian or even Cecily or Anni.

I will continue this series and may backtrack to the parents series. This book does say stand-alone but I think a little heads up that I should have really started with the 7?? Book prequel would have been nice like she does for the other books in the Gods series.
