THE INSPIRATION FOR THE CBS ORIGINAL SERIES TRACKER

In this twisty thriller from the New York Times bestselling master of suspense, reward-seeker Colter Shaw infiltrates a sinister cult after learning that the only way to get somebody out...is to go in.

In the wilderness of Washington State, expert tracker Colter Shaw has located two young men accused of a terrible hate crime. But when his pursuit takes a shocking and tragic turn, Shaw becomes desperate to discover what went so horribly wrong and if he is to blame.

Shaw's search for answers leads him to a shadowy organization that bills itself as a grief support group. But is it truly it a community that consoles the bereaved? Or a dangerous cult with a growing body count?

Undercover, Shaw joins the mysterious group, risking everything despite the fact that no reward is on offer. He soon finds that some people will stop at nothing to keep their secrets hidden...and to make sure that he or those close to him say “goodbye” forever.

~~Lots of twists and turns....~~

This novel is loaded with twists and turns and also action scenes throughout. The intensity is maintained through changes in the plot which will keep the reader glued to the pages in anticipation of what might occur next. My advice is not to try to figure this out....you may be wrong.

Taking place in Washington state, the action starts quickly with Colter Shaw in a rental car. Then, an unexpected event transpires and this turns into an investigation by him..The Osiris Foundation is the public name for a foundation that assists people that have excess 'baggage'. Colter spends three weeks at the foundation.

There is suspense coupled with a cult that is indeed sinister which keeps the reader more than intrigued...Going undercover always creates that idea of danger and more suspense. The element of surprise is always present. So, yes, Colter does go undercover...Take a deep breath....

This is the second novel that I have read by this author and will once again say that Mr. Deaver writes with extraordinary skill. That includes a plot with twists and turns which makes it multi-layered, characters which are well developed and a dialogue that is clear and concise. This is an intense story so buckle up your seat belt and settle in for this outstanding read.

Most highly recommended and for multlple reasons.

Mythical East Western Washington

This is set in a non-existent county east of Pierce County (in Washington State). I live in Seattle; I can only hope this sort of thing is confined to, say, Idaho. Our hero goes after two young men who are accused of vandalism of a church and firing on a handyman and a deacon. Having sized up the local law, he misleads them and finds the fugitives. One jumps off a cliff; the other he hides in his trunk to get him safely home. But this raises questions about the suicide, leading to a retreat center run by a mysterious organization. The book is mostly about this, and it is very exciting.

Oh, this book is better than the first one. Colter finds two young men who are accused of burning a cross in front of a church and shooting two members of the church. One young man jumps off a cliff. Colter wonders why. Colter assumes an identity similar to his own and applies to enter a transformational facility in the wilds of Washington State. What Colter finds there is very disturbing. You must read this book to get the answers. A very good mystery.

Hate crimes and a cult

Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2024

Colter Shaw, who is a rewardist looking for people for the reward money, is back in this second book in the series the TV show Tracker now being shown on Paramount Plus is based on.

Colter is looking for a couple of young men who seem to have been involved in a hate crime when he stumbles onto a tie-in with a local cult.

Between looking into the background and workings of the cult plus finding himself on the track of mysterious happenings from his dead father's past, Colter is kept pretty busy in this installment of the series.

I enjoyed this book although it did ramble a bit. I'm now off to read the third book in the series The Final Twist.

Not as suspenseful……

This book was interesting but not as “cliff hanging” as his previous Colter Shaw books. Usually, I can’t put his books down but not with this one. It was a bit predictable.

Good read, but not everything fits

Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2021

Colter Shaw is not as compelling a character as some of Deaver's others. However, his writing is good, the novel has a few interesting twists. One aspect that does not fit well is why a person whose only employment is finding people would use his own money and time just to satisfy his curiosity about why something happened (no spoilers!)

this is a professional writer?

Given all the books that he published, I was truly astonished by the clumsy writing throughout the book. Worse than that, even, was the disjointed plot.
