In her global phenomenon The 5 Second Rule, Mel Robbins taught millions the five second secret to motivation . Now she's back with another simple, proven science-backed tool you can use to take control of your life: The High 5 Habit .

Don't let the title fool you. This isn't a book about high fiving everyone else in your life. You're already doing that. Cheering for your favorite teams. Celebrating your friends. Supporting the people you love as they go after what they want in life.

Imagine if you gave that same love and encouragement to yourself. Or even better, you made it a daily habit.

You'd be unstoppable.

In this encouraging book, Mel teaches you how to start high fiving the most important person in your life, the one who is staring back at you in the mirror: YOURSELF.

If you are:

· Struggling with self-doubt (and who doesn't?) …

· Tired of that nagging critic in your head (could somebody evict them already?) …

· Successful but all you focus on is what's going wrong (you're not alone) …

· Sick of watching everybody else get ahead while you sit on the couch with your dog (don't bring your dog into this) …

...Mel dedicates this book to you.

Chapters Include:

You Deserve a High 5 Life Science Says This Works I Have a Few Questions... Why Do I Torture Myself? Am I Broken? Where's All This Negative Crap Coming From? Why Am I Suddenly Seeing Hearts Everywhere? Why Is Life So Easy for Them and Not Me? Isn’t It Easier If I Say Nothing? How About I Start . . . Tomorrow? But Do You Like Me? How Come I Screw Everything Up? Can I Actually Handle This? Okay, You May Not Want to Read This Chapter Eventually, It Will All Make Sense

It's time to give yourself the high fives, celebration, and support you deserve.

With this book, you'll learn how to:

· Use the High 5 Habit to overcome negative self-talk and limiting beliefs · Create a clear vision for your life and set goals that align with your values · Take consistent action towards your goals, even when you don't feel like it · Develop a mindset of resilience and perseverance · Achieve more success and happiness in all areas of your life

“When I stopped trashing myself and started giving my reflection a high five instead, it was more than an encouraging gesture on a low day. It flipped that self-criticism and self-hatred on its head. It changed the lens through which I viewed my life.

That was the beginning of a massive shift in my life. A line in the sand. The beginning of a brand-new connection to the most important person in my life—myself.

A new way of thinking about myself and about what was possible for me. It inspired me to create an entirely new way of experiencing life. That’s why I wrote this book.

It’s time to cheer for YOU.”

Skeptical at First...now I'm High Five All the Way

When I first heard about the High 5 Habit, I was highly skeptical. No way Mel Robbins could write an impactful book about high-fiving yourself in the mirror every morning. And NO WAY that it actually works.

But I love Mel's work. I love her energy and how she shows up for her community so I bought the book.

First, I realized that if you do high five yourself in the mirror...that it works. I now give myself a high five followed by a HUGE smile every morning. It makes me feel great and I can't think of a better way to start the day.

Second, this book is about so much more than high-fiving yourself in the mirror. This book is like having Mel Robbins as your personal coach. She shares so many great tools for managing your mind, calming your anxiety, and training your brain to find possibilities and opportunities.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has big goals and the gap between where you are now and where you want to be seems insurmountable. Thanks, Mel for writing such a useful and uplifting book.

Interesting, Fun, Thought Provoking, and Do-able

I really enjoyed this book and the High 5 challenge as this a great read and can be done in as little as two sittings. I read it pretty quickly. I am a huge fan of Mel Robbins and studied her all summer. I like how she approaches her material and how available she is to listen to. Aside from this book, the YouTube videos, her website, and the Facebook pages (Mel Robbins, and Best Decade Ever) are awesome. Mel delivers value in so many ways. I hope that everyone that reads her book(s) (the 5 second rule), will appreciate all that she is doing. For me personally, this summer has been a journey. Mel perspective, honesty, research, and tools have helped me in so many ways. Being in my mid-50's, single, no kids nor never been married, this is a very tough time in my life. I can say that I am definitely a 5-sec rule gal. Adding High 5 Habit will add the icing on the cake. Please note, life is not easy and her stories let you know the tough times in her life. She does reference her family a lot. As a suggestion to her to please add more about older single individuals, especially with no kids. Getting older is really tough, especically alone. Thank you Mel and congratulations.

Misprinted Copy

Update 4/25- After an online chat, Amazon corrected the problem and replaced the misprinted copy. I have upgraded my review to a 5 star since Mel deserves it with sharing a great habit to get her fan base motivated to build back our self confidence.

I ordered two books including the High 5 Habit and The 5 Second Rule. I finished the latter first and just read the first 40 pages of The High 5 Habit just to find the last sentence I read never finished?? I flipped to the next page to find the same 40 pages I just read -that’s a first for me. So now I go from page 40 to page 89 never finishing Chapter 3 and picking up somewhere in Chapter 7. Amazon’s return window has closed so I’ll never know if I can give this book a true review.

Good Insight

I really enjoyed this book because of how genuine the author is in share her personal stories of success and setbacks. This book is written in a friendly narrative with a clear informative voice when needed. I have always been a fan of these types of books, motivational focus books. This is one that I will probably now purchase the physical form of after reading the ebook.

What I like about these book is that there is usually a new perspective or insight that I gain from the book. Or the book will remind me of something that I knew or a technique that I had forgotten about it. In this case I gained a new insight. My two favorite take aways from this book is the "hand on the heart" and journal pages. The first time I tried the "hand on the heart" technique I could feel my whole body relax deeply. Then I did it again but this time I recited some of my own personal mantras after doing the initital technique. I had the most amazing day afterwards! It felt right too. As for the journal pages, I journal every day upon waking up but I felt like I was missing something in my journaling. The two-page journal pages seem to give me the structure support that I was missing in my own journaling.

High 5 to a New Life

Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2021

The High 5 Habit is exactly the book I needed right now. It's been a long last almost 2 years and this book came to right at the time I needed it. I'm a fan of Mel and pre-ordered my copy so was able to read it right when it arrived! I had really high expectations because of The 5 Second Rule and I didn't know if this book would be as good, but it really topped it. The book is loosely divided into 3 sections. First, Mel talks all about the power of a high five, the science of high fiving, and how to do the high five habit. I like how the book got right to the point and from the beginning included the most important information first. Then, she moves more broadly into how the brain changes and why we hold ourselves back and how with that information we can make changes through the high five habit. And she gives my favorite habit of the book, "looking for hearts" (which has a really deep meaning). The high 5 habit isn't one habit, there's actually many of them in the book.

In the next section, she takes a turn and goes into the biggest things that hold us back from a high five life, and really dives into each thing, like jealousy, guilt, anxiety. And then gives habits to help with each. Mel also shares really honest and moving stories from her life and others, and doesn't hold back at all in describing her behavior in the past. Given how successful she is now, you know that the tools really really work. And then the final section, takes a turn and moves more into what I can only call the "deeper" realm. But with the flow of the book it really works. I don't want to give anything away but Mel shares 2 really powerful stories that illustrate what happens when you use these habits, and especially the one with the painting had me in tears. It was such a beautiful ending and somehow the book combines what you expect from this kind of book, motivational self help inspirational stuff, with memoir, really deep spiritual insights, a big pep talk, and it's still really easy and entertaining to read.

I highly recommend this book to just about anyone of any age. And if you're skeptical too Mel lays it all out, there's so much science here. I feel like I have the tools to create a better relationship with myself and as Mel says, that sets the tone for everything in life. I also like how everything in this book is really easy and can be taught to people of any age. I'm definitely going to buy a copy for my daughter. Overall thank you so much Mel for writing such an amazing book and I'm excited to take the high 5 challenge (practicing the high 5 habit for five days in a row.)

Perfect for the natural pessimist.

I am a natural pessimist. That being said; in 5 days my perspective has changed drastically. I have accomplished a 20 year old dream. I had been actively working towards the goal for at least 6 months with seemingly no progress. After putting these odd practices into effect, it was as if a switch was flipped. Everything I have been dreaming of has started falling into place. So very grateful Mel.

This book is life saving

Firstly, thank you Mel!

I finished the book on Tuesday (9/28/21) the same day it was delivered. My birthday was on Sunday the 26th and honestly I did not celebrate. I did not want to celebrate me. But on Tuesday this came to me and I was compelled to start and honestly I could not put it down. I have been in such a terrible dark sense of mind that I have been living each day just surviving. After finishing “The High Five Habit” I got up went to the nearest mirror and high-fived myself. I just read this book cover to cover and began to cry. Not a simple cry but the ugly terrible crying. I realized this book was written for me and people like me. I never realized that there are people out there who are in the same frame of mind as I am. I high-fived my self a few more times which made me laugh. To actually look at myself in the mirror and smile is huge for me. Now I am reading it again and taking notes and really working through it.

Typically I will read a self-help book and it ends up on the shelf with all the other times I tried to help pull my self out. But this book is easily stated and simple to follow and it’s REAL. This is one that I will stick around in my messenger bag with all my other essentials because this to me is an essential. Thank you again.

Incredibly encouraging, a bit over the top

Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2023

This book tackles all of the mental garbage caused by self-doubt, guilt, regret, and shame and gives great advice on how to flip them into much more helpful components of a positive, self-confident mindset. Mel provides personal and relatable examples and gives specific instructions for how to get started with doing it for oneself. My only objection is the implication that self-confidence "Guarantees a Great Life", a gross over-simplification of reality in my opinion. Nevertheless, I found it very encouraging and uplifting and would recommend it to anyone feeling down on themselves or stuck.
