Check into a storied Nantucket hotel for a summer of scandal in this immensely satisfying page turner from "the queen of beach reads" (New York Magazine) and #1 New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand.

Fresh off a bad breakup with a longtime boyfriend, Nantucket sweetheart Lizbet Keaton is desperately seeking a second act. When she’s named the new general manager of the Hotel Nantucket, a once Gilded Age gem turned abandoned eyesore, she hopes that her local expertise and charismatic staff can win the favor of their new London billionaire owner, Xavier Darling, as well as that of Shelly Carpenter, the wildly popular Instagram tastemaker who can help put them back on the map. And while the Hotel Nantucket appears to be a blissful paradise, complete with a celebrity chef-run restaurant and an idyllic wellness center, there’s a lot of drama behind closed doors. The staff (and guests) have complicated pasts, and the hotel can’t seem to overcome the bad reputation it earned in 1922 when a tragic fire killed nineteen-year-old chambermaid Grace Hadley. With Grace gleefully haunting the halls, a staff harboring all kinds of secrets, and Lizbet’s own romantic uncertainty, is the Hotel Nantucket destined for success or doom?

Filled with the emotional depth and multiple points of view that characterize Hilderbrand’s novels (The Blue Bistro, Golden Girl) as well as an added dash of Roaring Twenties history, The Hotel Nantucket offers something for everyone in this compelling summer drama.

Really good read! I have not read anything by this author in a while and I do not know why because I love the way she writes. This story has a wonderful cast of characters, a little mystery, a little romance and a lot of heart and soul.

Although this is not a style I would normally choose, this book was fun to read. The author brings you well-described characters with just enough mystery to keep you engaged. I enjoyed the story and was a tiny bit sad it had to end.

Someone on Instagram recommended this book so I bought to read on vacation at the beach. I am not typically a reader. This book was a quick, good, and light read. It tells the story of multiple characters- which can be slightly confusing when it jumps to the next character's story but I could follow along. The ending was okay. I'd recommend and am looking at another book by this author to read next

Summer in Nantucket

If it’s summer, it’s time for another Elin Hilderbrand book and a trip to Nantucket! What I particularly enjoyed about this book was the inclusion of a historical fiction storyline, focusing on a “suspicious” death of a chambermaid in a tragic hotel fire. Happily, for us readers (although perhaps not for her), the chambermaid, Grace Hadley, is still haunting the remains of the hotel. Back to present day, the now rundown hotel is bought by a British billionaire who, among other things, is determined to not only return the Hotel to its former glory, but to earn a coveted top ranking (“five keys”) from a nationally syndicated columnist. I’ve read a few of Ms. Hilderbrand’s books, so it’s always fun when characters from previous books make an appearance (among them, chef Mario Subiaco, from The Blue Bistro). I love watching his relationship with hotel general manager Lizbet Keaton unfold, along with descriptions of delicious food and drink at both the Hotel Nantucket and other restaurants on Nantucket. Yes, I admit to checking out the menus—if I ever get to the island, I’ll have a list a mile long of places to eat and drink. Interesting and often amusing characters, well-written dialogue, and lots of fun secrets that come to the surface combine for an altogether lovely summer escape (without the high price tag!).

Elin Hilderbrand does it again! When I started this book I thought, “oh no, a ghost story? NOT for me” but it was light, entertaining and cute.

I gave up after about half way through. Too many characters and too many stories within stories. I’m sure it’s a good beach read.
