A twisting, pulse-pounding thriller from Freida McFadden, the New York Times bestselling author of The Housemaid and The Coworker

"You must be our new neighbors!" Mrs. Lowell gushes and waves across the picket fence. I clutch my daughter's hand and smile back: but the second Mrs. Lowell sees my husband a strange expression crosses her face. In that moment I make a promise. We finally have a family home. My past is far, far behind us. And I'll do anything to keep it that way…

I used to clean other people's houses―now, I can't believe this home is actually mine. The charming kitchen, the quiet cul-de-sac, the huge yard where my kids can play. My husband and I saved for years to give our children the life they deserve.

Even though I'm wary of our new neighbor Mrs. Lowell, when she invites us over for dinner it's our chance to make friends. Her maid opens the door wearing a white apron, her hair in a tight bun. I know exactly what it's like to be in her shoes. But her cold stare gives me chills…

The Lowells' maid isn't the only strange thing on our street. I'm sure I see a shadowy figure watching us. My husband leaves the house late at night. And when I meet a woman who lives across the way, her words chill me to the bone: Be careful of your neighbors.

Did I make a terrible mistake moving my family here?

I thought I'd left my darkest secrets behind. But could this quiet suburban street be the most dangerous place of all?

Ms. Freida, Ms. Freida, Ms. Freida………you can do no wrong. I have come to expect nothing but the best from this author and this book did not disappoint! Every page will hold your interest and don’t forget the twists and turns! Even though it seems everything was tied up neatly, I’m seeing a dozen ways to get another installment in this series. Ms. McFadden if you read this review, another Housemaid book, please! Highly recommended!

I don’t know what I know! 😂

I have read every book by Freida. I can honestly say that I always think I’ve got everything figured out.

She always proves me wrong.

It brings me enjoyment when I try and I fail. I hate knowing how a book will end or the twists.

If I ever figure the ending/plot twists of any of her books, I’ll be sad!

This book was so good! I loved getting more of Millie and Enzo and being introduced/reintroduced to other characters.

I loved the flow and pace of the book. I read this in less than two days which is impressive for my chaotic life. When I wasn’t reading it, I was listening to it. I couldn’t wait to find out who did what!

I will totally continue to read and recommend books by the author!

Loved book 3!!!

I have read all these housemaid books about Millie. I have read online reviews on this book where people said it was awful. I totally disagree. It may not be as wonderful as the first book in the series, which is probably usually the case, but I think it is another good book about Millie. It kept me wandering and wanting to read more. I read this book in three days. A friend of mine read it and loved it as well. I think this book left a lot hanging about many of the characters. I think Freida could write many books on some of these character’s backgrounds. I connect so well with her writing and never get bored. I think it was totally worth the read and I’m praying she writes a book 4 very soon because I will be buying that and reading it as well!! You go, Freida!!!

Not as Perfect as the First 2 But Still Really Good

I've read ALL of Freida McFadden's psych thrillers. (just Not her 'medical humor books) There were only a couple that were sub-par, but all the rest were absolutely stupendous. Definitely my favorite author in this genre, and I always automatically buy each new books she writes.

The first 2 books in this series were flawless. The Housemaid is probably my favorite of all her books. So I might be a little hard on the sequels.

As usual, the writing is engaging and it's hard to put it down. But this books has a few flaws; hence only 4 stars.

Without any spoilers, I'll just say that a major reveal was left unresolved. I'm guessing it was intentional, to set up the next sequel? Something happened to a character but it was vague as to what exactly, and the other character closest to that one didn't seem to know what happened, and it just got glossed over.

This is unusual because that character should have figured it out, or at least asked questions to find out exactly what happened.

It's a pretty big thing so I'm wondering if the editors told the author to leave it out, OR Freida plans to wrap it up in the next sequel.

Also, the explanation for everything was a little contrived, as to the timing of how it all went down.

I'm nitpicking here; it's STILL a great read, even with those flaws. Just Not quite as brilliantly awesome as some of her other books. Not one of her best but still better than most.

The perfect summer read/ good standalone book also

I loooooveeee all Freida McFadden books and this set was no exception! However give this book 3 stars because while the plot is intriguing and the characters are well-developed, I loved seeing what life married to Enzo is like but I found some parts of the story to be predictable and the pacing a bit slow at times. It felt like in some areas it dragged and I was anticipating a "The Shock" However, Freida's writing style is soooooo engaging and the suspense the second guesses maintained throughout the book! This is by far a decent read for fans that love mystery and suspense.

‘24 - 4 STARS

DESCRIPTION : I used to clean other people’s houses—now, I can’t believe this home is actually mine. The charming kitchen, the quiet cul-de-sac, the huge yard where my kids can play. I thought I’d left my darkest secrets behind. But could this quiet suburban street be the most dangerous place of all?

REVIEW : New author for me in late 2022 and I’ve read 9 books so far: The Teacher (‘24 - 3 Stars), The CoWorker (‘23 - 3 Stars), One by One (‘20 - Read ‘23 - 4 Stars), The Perfect Son (‘19 - Read ‘23 - 4 Stars), Ward D (‘23 - 5 Stars), The Housemaid’s Secret (‘23 - 5 Stars), The Inmate (‘22 - 3 Stars) and The Housemaid (‘22 - 5 Stars) and Never Lie (‘22 - 4 Stars).

I do love how this authors writing moves along so quickly. I’m about half way and I’m hoping Suzette gets what’s coming to her. I sure wouldn’t have been friends with her; one meeting/outing with her would have been enough. This book didn’t feel like the other “maid” books in the series. I guess because the maid in this one played a minor role thru most of the book. Entertaining read for me.

Less thrilling than the first two. Still a good read though with some interesting twists. The housemaid series has been great but this book is the least gripping of the three.

Freida is a master of twists and turns. I love this series and its' characters. Millie and Enzo are a love that is everlasting. We all knew Enzo would never cheat or betray Millie. I loved that the story takes place way down the road. They have had children and their lives are much fifferent. Their kids were written perfectly. I enjoyed all the twists. But the Martha twist saved the sorry for me. Overall, this was my least favorite in the series thus far. I'm not sure why, it just wasn't the same. But I enjoyed the journey it took me on so 7.9 out 10 stars. I can't wait for the next one!

Not the shocking book I was watching for…

Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2024

As most of you know, this is the third book in the Housemaid series. And unfortunately, it’s my least favorite. Books one and two were highly entertaining and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough, but this third book was repetitious and it read very juvenile.

Millie (our favorite former housemaid) is back with her husband Enzo, and their two children. They have an eleven year old daughter, Ada and a nine year old son named, Nico. They have finally moved into their dream house on 14 Locust Street. They then meet their new neighbors, and start to wonder is this really going to be their dream home?

After some not so shocking turn of events and twists in the story, we see Millie’s family start to fall apart. We also learn that moving into this neighborhood that Millie and Enzo could not afford was not at all worth it.

I went into this book with super high expectations, but I feel it just didn’t deliver the entertainment and twists that the previous books did. If there are any more books moving forward in this series, I probably won’t be reading them. I know many others enjoyed this book more than I did, so please read their reviews before deciding on this book.
