Melt With You

From the author of Some Girls Do and Hot Dog Girl comes a sweet and salty queer YA rom-com about two girls on a summer road trip in an ice cream truck—now available in paperback!

Fallon is Type A, looks before she leaps, and always has a plan (and a backup plan).

Chloe is happy-go-lucky, flies by the seat of her pants, and always follows her bliss.

The two girls used to be best friends, but last summer they hooked up right before Chloe left for college, and after a series of misunderstandings, they aren’t even speaking to each other.

A year later, Chloe’s back home from school, and Fallon is doing everything in her power to avoid her. Which is especially difficult because their moms own a business together—a gourmet ice cream truck where both girls work.

When a meeting with some promising potential investors calls their parents away at the last minute, it’s up to Fallon to work a series of important food truck festivals across the country. But she can’t do it alone, and Chloe is the only one available to help.

Tensions heat up again between the two girls as they face a few unexpected detours—and more than a little roadside attraction. But maybe, just maybe, the best things in life can’t always be planned.

Jennifer Dugan is a writer, a geek and a romantic, who writes the kind of stories she wishes she’d had growing up. This book was absolutely beautiful and amazing. I cried at the end years of joy for the main characters. I will never ever get enough of stories like this because even though I might be a 42 year old man, but maybe I can someday find love like these 2 people did in this book. I can't recommend this book highly enough. Jennifer Dugan is one hell of a writer and I love her for it. This book is a masterpiece in my opinion.

Really enjoyable book. The characters are fun but you want to shake them so they communicate a bit. Sweet read.

I’m so glad I read the book! Really entertaining and quick read. I did feel like the author’s inner monologue could have lessened and been replaced with more action, but it was good. I read it in a day because I couldn’t wait for the inevitable to happen.

Loved it at the 1st Chapter

I couldn’t put it down, the characters made you want more! The back and forth, different relationships, and I loved it all came together in a cohesive story! My long distance girlfriend bought this for us to read together bc I bought us “Some Girls Do” and we both loved loved the writers style, language and humor! It’s just nice to have lesbian romance depicted in a way that’s relatable.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who isn’t the best communicator, runs from conflict, has friends who support lgbtqia community and those who love and want to read a good JDugan book!

I found myself not wanting it to end, I had wished the road trip would have had a little more pages to it. It did have its twist and turns and I don’t mean from the ice cream truck Lol but I wanted more spice!

I’d give it 5 stars!!! 10 stars!!!

Lovely coming-of-age/young adult queer romance

It’s the summer after Fallon’s senior year and she and her ex-best friend, Chloe, make a road trip in an ice cream truck from NY to TN then TX to help save their moms’ business. Fallon is a bit type-A and Chloe is a bit fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants. It leads to an Odd Couple-type trip including kitschy roadside attractions and figuring out what matters along the way.

As crazy as parts of the story are, it still feels genuine. I understood everything Fallon felt.

Bonus points for an ice cream flavor named with a Red, White & Royal Blue reference

this second chance maybe romance is perfect for summer

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

Melt With You revolves around miscommunication with a capital C. It's about those situations we read one way, but may be something completely different. Something that normally is fixed with communication and transparency. But we're only human and communication is not our strong suit! When we're hurt and vulnerable, communication can feel like exposing ourselves to even more pain. And Melt With You perfectly captures this.

So this story becomes about whether lightning can strike twice. If we can find a way to bridge the gap of distance and time. To find the bravery to confront our mistakes, pain, and - what might be the most difficult - our love. I loved that Melt With You was not dual POV because with this miscommunications, it's so important to sink into the why. Into these pockets of hurt that we retreat into when we find it impossible to see someone else's side.

Teen angst can be intense. I want some ice cream though. The cute love between the MCs is just disastrously fun. Miscommunication be the death of love.

Ps: The best friends were golden.

I listened to the audiobook for most of this book and idk if it was the voice of the reader or just how the main character irked me with their lack of communication skills, but I found myself cringing so many times throughout the story. As a mid twenties queer woman, it felt that first this book was meant for a younger crowd, and second that maybe it was written by a person who had not experienced a WLW relationship at a young age. Overall a book I didn’t hate but didn’t love with a juvenile story line that fell flat with me wishing there was more to it.
