Once upon a time we were a family.

In those days, all I remember was laughter and joy. I was their first-born, and I remember so clearly my parents’ pride as I held my little sister, Phoebe, for the first time, the joy shining out of their faces.

But then one devastating day, everything changed, when Phoebe died. And it tore us all apart.

Then the third daughter – baby Bea – was born. It was meant to be the start of us healing. Becoming a family again. But the truth was, nothing would ever be the same again.

Now Bea is all grown up. And she’s called me to say she’s pregnant. She says she wants to come home. Because she has some questions.

After all these years, I know it’s time for our family secrets to come to the surface. The secrets we’ve been trying to pretend never happened. About the missing pieces in our family… And about the very worst day of my life…

A powerful, heartbreaking story about family, sisterhood, and the ties that bind us. A perfect read for fans of Susan Lewis, Sally Page and Amanda Prowse, from No.1 bestselling author, Laura Pearson.

Beautiful impressive story

Esme's world drastically changes when disaster strikes. Her father Tom and mother Linda are having a hard time coping with their loss. Esme feels like her mother blames her. Linda has checked out of their lives. She's heavily pregnant and doesn't want to have another baby. She only thinks and cares about what she's lost. Nobody talks about what happened, which creates an oppressive environment filled with secrets, guilt and anger. The consequences are devastating, how will the family deal with such a big loss?

Even many years later Esme and her father can't express their feelings to each other. The baby Linda didn't want is all grown up. Bea has many questions about what the family was like before she was born, but there's nobody who wants to give her the answers she so desperately seeks. How can she be a good mother if there are so many missing pieces from her own history? To have a future together and to find love again the family has to find a way to move forward, will Bea's pregnancy be what they need to glue the shattered parts of themselves together again?

Missing Pieces is a beautiful heartbreaking story. I shed quite a few tears while reading this amazing emotional novel. One terrible moment wrecks an entire family. There are so many unspoken words, unprocessed feelings and communication issues. Laura Pearson has thoroughly explored the struggles of each family member. Tom, Linda, Esme and Bea all have their flaws, they are far from perfect, they can't cope and they do things they normally wouldn't have done because they don't know what to do with their sadness. The result is a story filled with so many emotions it's about to explode. I was impressed by each layer of this fantastic poignant book.

Laura Pearson has a terrific descriptive wring style. She skillfully makes connections, openly shares her main characters' most private thoughts and she laces her story with an abundance of honesty, empathy and forgiveness. This gives Missing Pieces a perfect rawness that had a strong effect on me. I could literally feel the anger, the hurt and the pain and was stunned by how real it all felt. Missing Pieces is intense, thought-provoking and agonizing. Laura Pearson carefully divides tension, she balances emotions in a great way and she knows how to captivate her readers. She ends her story with a wonderful message and plenty of hope, showing her readers there's always light in the darkness, even in the most daunting situations. Missing Pieces is a story that packs a punch and will stay with me for a very long time.

Losing a child (of any age) has to be the worst thing parents can go through

Wow!!!! Missing Pieces is gripping, heartbreaking, and I didn’t want to put it down. Laura Pearson’s writing is phenomenal!! Losing a child (of any age) has to be the worst thing parents can go through. Learning to move forward without that child is just so hard. We had to do it when we lost my husband’s daughter at age 48. It’s been 5 years for us. This book grabbed me from page 1. It is gripping throughout and the ending had me crying! And I’ve only cried twice reading books. This is one of my fave books of 2018 so far!!

It is hard to believe that this is the Laura Pearson's first book and what a fantastic book it is. This is a heart-wrenching account of a family's loss which leaves the surviving family members is a very fragile state. After the initial account of the loss and subsequent tragedy in 1985, fast forward to 2011 when the surviving sisters have grown up and are involved in careers of their own, both of whom are still haunted by secrets surrounding their sister's death. This book deserves more than 5 stars and I am so looking forward to reading future books by this author. Have some tissues handy.

Missing Pieces is absolutely incredible! I couldn’t put this book down. I was entirely enthralled from the first page. All the emotions experienced in this book are so relatable. Every part felt like an extension of your own reality. It’s very well written.

Missing Pieces displays how an entire family’s lives are shaped after a tragedy. It’s definitely one of those books, you think about long after you’ve finished reading. I definitely recommend reading this book!

I could have read this forever.

This was really nice book with unexpected twists in the plot. It ended sort of abruptly and spoiled my afternoon because I had set aside time to curl up with it. Parts of the story are so sad that I cried...something I don't do easily. This is one of those books you can get lost in, my favorite kind, which are hard to find now.

I loved this book for several reasons: the most important one being that I had no idea of what had really happened on that fateful day! I felt that the psychological effects upon the characters were realistic, and well expressed. It sent my personal feelings into a tailspin many times, and I would recommend this book to all of my many novel reading friends! Thanks very much to Laura Pearson for such a well-written work of art!

This book was good, but it wasn't utterly mesmerizing, or leaving me totally gripped, or the best book I've ever read as some put it. I was hoping for more suspense. It was just an okay book.

A challenging read for a mom of young kids.

Liked the characters. Read in 2.5 days though I thought I might quit in the early chapters.
