The Return

In the romantic tradition of Dear John, an injured Navy doctor meets two extremely important women whose secrets will change the course of his life in this #1 New York Times bestseller.

Trevor Benson never intended to move back to New Bern, North Carolina. But when a mortar blast outside the hospital where he worked sent him home from Afghanistan with devastating injuries, the dilapidated cabin he'd inherited from his grandfather seemed as good a place to regroup as any.

Tending to his grandfather's beloved beehives, Trevor isn't prepared to fall in love with a local . . . yet, from their very first encounter, Trevor feels a connection with deputy sheriff Natalie Masterson that he can't ignore. But even as she seems to reciprocate his feelings, she remains frustratingly distant, making Trevor wonder what she's hiding.

Further complicating his stay in New Bern is the presence of a sullen teenage girl, Callie, who lives in the trailer park down the road. Trevor hopes Callie can shed light on the mysterious circumstances of his grandfather's death, but she offers few clues—until a crisis triggers a race to uncover the true nature of Callie's past, one more intertwined with the elderly man's passing than Trevor could ever have imagined.

In his quest to unravel Natalie and Callie's secrets, Trevor will learn the true meaning of love and forgiveness . . . and that in life, to move forward, we must often return to the place where it all began.

As usual, Nicholas Sparks has not disappointed. I love the mixture of romance, mystery, and suspense he puts into his books. I highly recommend this book. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down!

I love all of the novels by Nicholas Sparks and The Return was not disappointing. It was hard to put down. Each chapter kept me more than interested in starting the next chapter. I was surprised at some of the twists that took place. I could feel the emotions of the characters. I am sure you will love it too.

I have always loved his books. This one is no exception! He is so gifted. I also like that most of his books have the setting in North Carolina. This one was also in Helen, Georgia which is a favorite place of mine.

I hate writing reviews, but this book deserves my not so eloquent praise

This book sat in my library a long time because of the lukewarm reviews by other readers. I am glad I finally decided to read it as I enjoyed it very much. I have been a fan of this author since reading The Notebook so many years ago and I think I haven't missed a book since. I liked the characters in this book and feel the author portrayed each well, even those minor characters who may only had a brief mention in the story. All were vividly depicted and my mind could picture them and their actions. The book contained just enough of a mystery keeping the reader engaged and interested in learning all the secrets as well as the romance typical to this author. All in all, it was an excellent read.

This story was long and drawn out. Not at all as enjoyable to read. Found myself skipping parts just to finish. Kind of disappointed overall.
