Attorney David Adams is the last hope for an adolescent runaway being targeted by an assassin and sought by the FBI in a breath-catching novel by the Amazon Charts bestselling author of An Unequal Defense.
Having abandoned corporate law, David Adams is now the voice of justice for the city of Austin’s vulnerable outcasts. His new client is Parker Barnes, a trembling twelve-year-old runaway and foster-care poster boy arrested for petty theft. Dealt a rough hand in life, he reminds David of his own childhood. This should be a simple, if heartbreakingly familiar, case. Until the FBI muscles in.
Parker is also a suspect in the murder of a federal witness. No matter how desperate Parker’s denial, David fears there’s so much more to the kid’s hard-luck story than he’s letting on. Especially when a hit man sends the boy running to the only safe place he knows: the streets.
With both the feds and a killer on Parker’s trail, the hunt is on. Teaming up with a pro bono investigator and utilizing his reliable band of street-savvy friends, David must find Parker first if he’s to save the boy from an undeserved fate. And maybe even save himself.

Simple, engaging and uplifting

What makes this series unique for me is that it describes a homeless community in a very entertaining format of a thriller. The fact that author had some personal experience with homeless people makes me believe that the pictures of homeless communities he presents are mostly true (although they seem almost too sugar coated at times). It is a third (and may be the best) book in the series but it may be read alone.
The plot is simple, easy to follow and very satisfactory. The good usually wins. Almost all characters are either good or bad which is also a nice change from some dark psychological thrillers. The main new character is 12 years old Parker, a homeless boy who witnessed a murder and became himself a target of a murderer. It is a little cliche idea but it works very well in this book, especially because Parker is extremely likable and surprisingly resourceful.
In short: very uplifting book

It’s hard enough being a 12 year old, now imagine being a 12-year-old who is on the run, has witnessed something very scary, and has people chasing after them. This is the third book in the David Adams series and it does not let you down. Chad Zunker is quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors. This is the fourth book that I have read by him and he continues to draw me in. This story has everything that you would want in it as a genuine, good legal thriller. I grow to like the character David Adams more and more, and I really love the inclusion of the “type “of clients that he works with. It makes the story that much more engaging for me. If you like legal thrillers give this author a try!

I've read all 3 David Adam's books now and I've enjoyed every page I've read. The characters are so realistic,I feel like I could run into them on the street( only the good ones of course). The storylines have kept the pages turning quickly. I haven't wanted to put these books down. I applaud Mr. Chad Zunker for his writing and his good works. Thank you so very much! Now onto the next book.
