The Takeover (The Miles High Club, 2)

A Wall Street Journal bestseller.

In bestselling author T L Swan’s second hot installment to the Miles High Club series, he’s sexy, rich, and her mortal enemy. Hate never felt so good.

I first met Tristan Miles at a meeting where he was trying to take over my late husband’s company.

He was powerful, arrogant, and infuriatingly gorgeous, and I hated him with every cell in my body. In the shock of the century, he called me three days later and asked me on a date.

I would rather die than date a man like him―though I do have to admit it was good for the ego. Turning him down was the highlight of my year.

Six months later, he was the guest speaker at a conference I attended in France.

Still arrogant and infuriating―but this time, surprisingly charming and witty.

When he looked at me, I got butterflies.

But I can’t go there.

He’s just a player in a hot suit, and I’m just a widow with three unruly sons.

I just need this conference to be over.

Because everybody knows that Tristan Miles always gets what he wants…and what he wants is me.

This story packs a punch. It is usually the clueless man who makes a mess of a good thing, but this time it is the woman, well meaning as she may be. This story has it all...laughter, fun, heartache, tears, growth, and hope. It is well-written and a delight to read. I love these characters who have a surprising depth to them. Great read.it's

I truly loved how such a perfect man who could literally have any woman chooses one who comes with baggage - a widow with 3 kids, who give him a run for his money and yet grow to adore him as their very own dad. Such a beautiful story of love, passion, family, and business. This author TL Swan is becoming one of my favorite, so freaking funny and witty with her stories and the dialogue, I laugh so much which is a rarity from just reading. Can’t wait to now read the 3rd in line next!

A TRUE MUST READ

Where do I begin with this 2nd book of the Miles High Club. I want to be a part of the Miles High Club.

I thought the story of Jameson and Emily was quite cute, sad, funny, vengeful, and loveable.

From the first time Tristan was introduced, I was curious about what his story would be about. Wondered who the young woman was who Emily kept seeing him and his brother's were with during their story, but I'm not sure if that was reflected here. Hmmm...

Well, first here is a quote from my sister who turned me on to this series and author. "You know I read a lot, but this story just gets to me. You have everything in the storyline. Love, loss, empathy, enlightenment, and encouragement are all brought together by a master storyteller. Oh, I forgot to in my critique humor cause I remember laughing my ass off too ."

I have to say that like my sister, I fell in LOVE with Tristan. He definitely knew how to make a woman feel loved and sexy. He was a romantic on top of a sex addict. I loved their humor as well. They made me laugh so hard, I had to call my sister to share a moment in the book when he met the children (her new husband's lol).

I knew his mother was going to have that conversation with him about a widowed mother with kids. Her sons were a hoot.

There were very sweet family loving moments. When Tristen spoke about his brothers and why they don't each run an individual company and how they don't want to be alone and they are family. He had me. Loved how he fell in love with her and how he kept telling her that they would break up when they were both ready to break up. Loved Claire, her strong determination to keep her husband's business, their family and his memories. I enjoyed her reasserting herself as a woman. Realizing that she was still attractive and desirable. Tristen helped and encouraged that blossoming rose within her.

T L Swann, spun this beautiful tale of love healing hearts and bringing more than two souls together but five souls. Loved that he knew that to love her, he had to love her sons. He not only fought for her love but he fought for theirs as well. He saw her sons, he saw their pain and their needs. When he took Harry, aka the Wiz, to school and fought for his rights to be treated fairly. I fell deeper in love with Tristen. There was another touching moments with Harry. The boys getting mad at her when they broke up was funny, sad, and sweet rolled up together.

I need more about Tristen and his family.

Can't say it enough to many great lines, fun times, sensuality, heartache and pain, trust, letting go of the past to open up to the future. Recognizing your feelings for one person over what you thought were your desires in others.

Tristan made me fall in love with him and mad at Claire for not understanding what her sons came to realize about him sooner.

Thank you for this book and my sister's book husband...Tristen.

The Hero(s):Β Tristan Miles- One of the owners of Miles Media who initially wanted to purchase Anderson Media. Tristan is known to buy failing business, turns it around and makes a profit.

The heroine:Β Claire Anderson- Single mother of 3 boys who lost her husband 5 years ago and the owner of Anderson Media (company started by Claire and her husband).

The Love Story: They start off horribly after Tristan's failed attempt to buy off Anderson Media from Claire. She's not afraid to tell him off either during their encounter, like at all, she tells him exactly what she thinks of him. Shortly after Claire is reluctantly forced to go to a retreat in Paris by her assistant and who should be there but Tristan Miles himself. She tries to avoid him, his devilish good looks and charm. She didn't stand a chance. LOL. They have hook-up, have a great time then it's back to reality. Tristan wants more, more of Claire and he's not afraid of the word "No" and he's willing to fight for her.

Claire has 3 sons (ages 17, 13 and 9) with her dead husband, a cat and a dog. When the boys first meet Tristan...let's just say I could not stop laughing at the chaos that ensued. Tristan was beat and gagged with his own underwear by one son and the other son threatened to do away with him via hanging. At first the banter between Tristan and the boys is full of ideal threats (both ways by the way, I mean the boys are 17 and 13, Tristan is 33) but eventually turns into mutual respect for each other.

Claire goes back and forth a lot between wanting Tristan, about her budding feelings for Tristan and naturally guilt for wanting another man who is not a dearly departed husband. They go through all the trials and tribulations that come with a second chance at love romcom.

My Thoughts:Β I really enjoyed this book. It truly had everything and it wasn't to too much. It's not just a love story between Claire and Tristan, but also Tristan loving and helping each of those 3 boys. His self sacrifice to raise them into men melted by heart. This is a must read!!!

The Miles brothers are as funny as they are sexy!! This story is steamy, funny and heartwarming. It’s so refreshing to see a love story with a woman that's not a model. I like how Tristian gets what he wants but what he WANTS is more than what he bargained for. With all the sex and passion in this story…..ONE character stole the show, The Wizard!!!

What a beautiful story! Starts out rough and I wasn’t sure I was going to like it as I liked Tristan in the 1st book but his good character really shines! He gets his girl though she is really damaged, he literally saves her 3 boys mental health and makes them a family till she goes and destroys it for all of them. I kinda wish I thought better of her but I don’t, she is so wrapped up in her own sorrow she didn’t even see the what her boys needed. I really did enjoy the story though and it has parts that are so, so funny!! What makes it special is the love between Tristan and the boys. It’s a nice change of pace having her being older than him, not your typical romantic love story of an older man and a β€œperfect β€œ younger woman.

It was very entertaining, the pacing was crazy fast at the end! If you are looking for spice. It was decent 4\5. They are a really cute couple but I think the ending needs to be reworked.

This book was SO much better than the first one. A lot less cringey word usage, which I appreciated, and only one time, that I can recall, where the FMC kissed the MMC on their πŸ†. That's just weird to me, personally.

I'm not typically into the single parent trope, but this one was so good. The dynamic between Tristan and Harry (the wizard) was probably my top favorite thing about this book. The way he handled things with him and understood him was so perfect. But also, tick tock. πŸ˜‚

The third act, if you will, of this book pissed me off, which is why this isn't truly a 4-star book, in my opinion. However, it's closer to four than three, so that's what I selected.

This book made me laugh and cry, and I'm not sure the other two brothers are going to be able to beat this story.
