An Unequal Defense (David Adams, 2)

4.6 out of 5

9,378 global ratings

A client with delusions of a deadly conspiracy draws attorney David Adams into a darkness where only the paranoid know how to get out alive.

Former up-and-coming hotshot attorney David Adams left his glamorous corporate law firm to fight for the disenfranchised. With a caseload of petty offenses, a meager office in a crumbling building, and little in the way of compensation, David needs a real case.

When he agrees to represent Rebel, David recognizes this will be the biggest challenge of his young legal career. The mentally unstable homeless man has been accused of murder, and the evidence of his guilt seems overwhelming. But it’s the victim who shakes David’s world: a county prosecutor who just happens to be an old law school friend. Rebel’s murky defense: a paranoid insistence on a CIA plot to silence the derelict.

Aided only by a “legal team” of misfit street friends and a fellow counselor lured into this dark web, David will risk everything to defend his client…who may not be nearly as crazy as he seems.

Twisted, Suspenseful & Angst more please!

An Unequal Defense is the second book in the David Adams series and is every bit as great as the first one. David is back and although he has pretty much lost everything, he doesn't allow it to define him. He's trying to still do right by his friend Benny and the other men from camp. When Davis is presented with a new case involving the death of someone he loves he quickly has to decide what the right thing to do is and how to do it.

This is another case that will keep you on the edge of your seat with every twist, turn, and angst. You will not be able to put the book down and soon realize that once again NOTHING is as it seems. The author does a great job of intertwining so many personalities and characters that you have a hard time figuring out who is actual good and who is evil. This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites as I've read 3 of his books in 4 days.

This author is fantastic. Brings everything to the table in lawyer's terms. Fighting crime is never easy and not always rewarding. A great read again.

I really enjoyed the first book, and the second one is just as good. This story follows David as he defends a client accused of killing a police officer who was also David’s close friend. At first, David doesn’t want to take the case because of his friendship with the officer, but he soon notices some things don’t add up. As he digs deeper, he faces many dangers while trying to uncover the truth. The book is suspenseful, informative, and very entertaining. I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what would happen next. I definitely recommend it.

It’s been a while since I read the first book so I had forgotten the characters and the author’s way of writing But once in, it came back quickly and tied together nicely. You definitely don’t need to read the first book to read this one but it does help.

Fast, Thrilling Murder Mystery! Wow!

Crisp storytelling and short action-packed chapters make this murder suspense zip right by. Hold on!

The second of the David Adam's series (I liked Book 1), this short novel is a fun read with lots of surprises and twists as the plot develops. This series is about an honest lawyer with a good heart. You won't be traumatized by foul language, extreme violence, or explicit sex. Instead, the story plays out well, as good people caught in the middle of bad circumstances try to help each other to survive, while everything else around them seems to be crashing down on top of them. Ugh!

Although David is a talented but struggling young lawyer and the main character, this is not a legal procedural, but instead about a homeless veteran accused of murder, while not knowing whether he really did it. Yikes!

Set in Austin, Texas, the storyline portrays common people working together to help one of their own. The drama and suspense won't traumatize, while creating an engaging story. This is a great escape read that you won't to escape from after reading. The focused story has few distractions, keeping the plot's momentum going.

Although this book makes a good standalone read, Books 1 and 2 could easily be read out of order. Audible's supporting narration was a great value for a reasonable price, making the storytelling experience even more enjoyable.

I want to read more by this author.
