"A brave and original debut, Weyward is a spellbinding story about what may transpire when the natural world collides with a legacy of witchcraft." ––Sarah Penner, New York Times bestselling author of The London Séance Society

I am a Weyward, and wild inside.

2019: Under cover of darkness, Kate flees London for ramshackle Weyward Cottage, inherited from a great-aunt she barely remembers. With its tumbling ivy and overgrown garden, the cottage is worlds away from the abusive partner who tormented Kate. But she suspects that her great-aunt had a secret. One that lurks in the bones of the cottage, hidden ever since the witch-hunts of the 17th century.

1619: Altha is awaiting trial for the murder of a local farmer who was stampeded to death by his herd. When Altha was a girl, her mother taught her their magic, a kind not rooted in spell casting but in a deep knowledge of the natural world. But unusual women have always been deemed dangerous, and as the evidence of witchcraft is laid out against Altha, she knows it will take all her powers to maintain her freedom.

1942: As World War II rages, Violet is trapped in her family's grand, crumbling estate. Straitjacketed by societal convention, she longs for the robust education her brother receives––and for her mother, long deceased, who was rumored to have gone mad before her death. The only traces Violet has of her are a locket bearing the initial W and the word weyward scratched into the baseboard of her bedroom.

Weaving together the stories of three extraordinary women across five centuries, Emilia Hart's Weyward is an astonishing debut, and an enthralling novel of female resilience.

One of my favorite reads so far this year

This is a book that sucks you in and chews your heart out. It is heavy and dark but also empowering as the characters find their way through the darkest times of their lives. 3 women linked by a fantastical heritage tell their stories. Magical realism abounds with a healthy dose of revenge. As it has been said and sung before… he had it coming. Sometimes it is best to just let nature take its course. 🪰🪲🪳🐝🐞🦟🦗🕷🦋🐛🪱 Muwahahahaha🐄!

The cover of this hardback is absolutely gorgeous. Every time I look at it, I find something new. Perfect iridescent touches.

I enjoyed this book. The generational ladies whose stories were told were well developed and interesting. This reader cared about the ladies and their experiences. The author shows the strength of generations that follow the family line and she weaves the tale of these amazing women.

Three generations of women in the Weyward family are followed in this story....are they witches? Altha is accused of witchcraft in the 1600s, Violet is living under a uncaring father's fist and Kate has an abusive boyfriend. Will they survive? A mix of historical fiction and fantasy, with good writing, I really enjoyed this book.

I liked this story, it was a bit slow and it took several chapters to see how the three women were connected but good overall. Each of the three women had interesting stories and Ms. Hart did a great job of portraying the oppression women faced throughout history. I also enjoyed the touch of supernatural - it made things intriguing and even better that it was used for revenge! Look forward to reading more from @Emilia Hart.
