William Davis

Dr. Davis provides solutions to health problems by addressing the microbiome, massively disrupted in modern people. He shows readers in his Super Gut book, for instance, how to restore important lost microbes lost such as Lactobacillus reuteri, restored by using a unique method of yogurt fermentation that smooths skin and reduces wrinkles, restores youthful muscle and strength, deepens sleep, reduces appetite and provides many other youth-preserving and anti-aging effects. In Super Gut and in his website, www.DrDavisInfiniteHealth.com, he provides additional do-it-yourself-at-home strategies for benefits such as improved mood, improved athletic performance, better sleep, heightened immunity, and improved body composition.

Dr. William Davis is also responsible for exposing the incredible nutritional blunder made by "official" health agencies: Eat more "healthy whole grains." The wheat of today is different from the wheat of 1960, thanks to extensive genetics manipulations introduced to increase yield-per-acre. Eliminating wheat yields results beyond everyone's expectations: substantial weight loss, correction of cholesterol abnormalities, relief from inflammatory diseases like arthritis, better mood, reduced blood sugar with many type 2 diabetics being freed of insulin and other drugs, all articulated through his Wheat Belly series of books. He is also a champion of individual self-directed health, as discussed in his Undoctored book.

Dr. Davis lives what he preaches, not having indulged in a wheat-containing bagel, ciabatta, or pretzel in many years, while consuming various fermentation products that yield unexpected health benefits. Dr. Davis lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Great book, great program!

At first glance I was a little disappointed because there seemed to be so many recipes that had already been in his other cookbooks, which I have. After giving it a day or two and then checking it out again, I liked the way he has taken those recipes and created bulk versions of them, making it easier to make multiple recipes from the one batch. The recipes are really good and there are many new ones I haven't tried yet. I have been strictly following Wheat Belly for just over 4 weeks and it's the first diet in my life that really seems to work. I know from many, many years of experience that you can lose weight with just about any diet. What matters is how easy it is to stick to and what benefits you receive from it. This has been the easiest 4 weeks ever!!! (other than withdrawal symptoms the first week) I never feel hungry or deprived and the healthy side effects I've experienced have convinced me to never eat wheat again! I've never had those healthy side effects from any other diet. Don't want to get too personal but let me just say that I've been having incontinence issues for the past 2 years and that completely disappeared the first week!!!!!!!! That alone is totally amazing to me!! I've also had a cyst on my back for 10 years that wouldn't go away no matter what the doctors did. After 4 weeks, it's gone!!!!!! Not wanting to gross anyone out but had to let others know what amazing things you might experience that you wouldn't normally associate with losing a little weight. Oh, I've lost 12 pounds also! Coming off very slowly now but nothing can make me go back to my old way of eating, or dieting!! It's hard to wrap my head around the concept of low carb, high fat, high protein after eating the opposite way for so many years but hey, it works! Back to the book.... There are so many great, basic recipes in here that it could be the only cookbook you need to really get started eating healthy. Lots of wonderful breakfast ideas (I've tried a lot of them and they were all good), good soups, veggie dishes and main meals plus a big dessert section. It's not about substituting more bad stuff for your current bad stuff, but rather finding a way to create very healthy satisfying meals for you and your family so no one even notices they're on a special diet. One family member refuses to give up wheat but I've been making these recipes for all his meals at home and he hasn't noticed the missing grains. Nothing in here is difficult to make and they take very little time but there's still some great meals you wouldn't mind serving to company. I highly recommend it!

Let me start by saying I didn't have high expectations of the Wheat Belly book or the cookbook, but I was very, very wrong. To give you some understanding, I have severe acid reflux and a hiatal hernia to boot. Before reading the book, I had been on more than double the max dose of a prescription medication as well as the max dose of OTC Zantac every single day. Even with this array of pills I vomitted blood and got sick most meals. I felt poorly everyday for the last 3+ years. I couldn't even brush my teeth in the morning without gagging or throwing up! In addition to that, I was shedding an abnormally large amount of hair, breaking out in rashes, have an array of symptoms similar to a low blood sugar (without any sugar issues), constantly tired off and on all day, waking multiple times a night to use the restroom or to numbness and tingling in my limbs or lips, having heart palpitations, and several other very bizarre things! I am a healthy, 32 year old female, within 15 pounds of a healthy weight for my age/height, who works out several times a week, and is in otherwise peak condition. This book was the last stop after multiple doctors and medications (both natural and prescribed) before giving in and trying surgery. Which, by the way, has a recurrence high enough to make me think it is a horrible idea. Within 24 hours of cutting out wheat I had stopped vomiting. I felt more energetic (slightly), and noticed a difference. Within 3 days I cut my dose of meds in half, and within 1 week I was totally off my medication with no ill effects. I am currently about 1 1/2 months out from starting this journey and I feel totally different! I now have a reaction if I even ingest a tiny amount of wheat, and all the symptoms I had and many I didn't even realize were symptoms (like the hair shedding) are gone. Totally gone! Now, this book...i got it first because it seemed like if I was going to stick with something, then a 30 minute meal book would be the simplest verses the original Wheat Belly cookbook. I have been feeding my family dinners out of this book for the last month, and every single one has been a hit. I have picky eaters and even they love what I'm cooking!!! This book is the best cookbook with some of the best recipes I've ever tried, even over wheat-containing ones. If you are wanting something to make this journey easier, tastier, and enjoyable...this is the best choice!

I first heard about Dr Davis in an online webinar 2013, about gluten and health, where he was one of the speakers interviewd by Dr O'Bryan during a week long webinar which was listened to by 200 000 people from all around the world. Dr Davis is extremely knowledgeable! I was so happy to learn that he has published this cook book. I love the recipes! I have another cook book with so called gluten free recipes where the author uses pseudo flours, which are free from w-h-e-a-t gluten but have other types of gluten in the flours used in the recipes. I never buy industrial gluten free products b/c I know they also contain those pseudo flours. I don't want to feel sick anymore. I am not diagnsoed celiac, I suffer from the so called gluten intolerance... problems in different parts of my body. I haven't bothered to get a diagnosis, I just stopped gluten and I feel so much better. I know I can trust the recipes in Dr Davis book, I have tried them and they work. Very grateful to Dr Davis! Thank you so much! It is so unusual for a medical doctor and world specialist in his field, to take the time to publish a cook book to help patients! Gluten is a world wide epidemic, it can cause chaos in different places in the body, leading literary to hundreds of health problems. Most doctors don't understand it. Their nutrition education in medical school equals to two hours, from what I have heard. It is sad. I realized gluten was the cause of my health problems when I listened to the webinar. It changed my life! So many patients go undiagnosed. It is so unnecessary to stay sick and suffer b/c of gluten! This is a very helpful cook book. Pls spread the word! We all need to help each other!

the more I like it. I have been on the wheat-free

The longer I use this cookbook, the more I like it. I have been on the wheat-free, personal Paleo eating lifestyle change for about a year. This book has many useful recipes. If you are looking for something that tastes like store-bought processed packaged food, you may be disappointed. As your taste buds withdraw from the unhealthy processed foods you may have been eating and adjust to the taste of REAL food, this cookbook will be more an more useful and the recipes will taste better and better. I have found the All-Purpose Baking Mix and Flaxseen Wrap Baking Mix very useful. We have enjoyed the Basic Focaccia Flatbread, Flaxweed Wraps, Taco Seasoning Mix, Cinnamon Pecan Scones, and the Herbed Biscuits to name a few. As far as I can tell, there is NO perfect sweetener out there. Everyone is still looking for it and there are many opinions about which is better and why. This book leaves the choice of sweetener up to the user. If you want to be told what to use for a sweetener, you will be disappointed. If you have walked the path toward this lifestyle change long enough, you will have your own preferences. If you do not have a sweetener preference, suggestions are given at the beginning of the book. As I mentioned in the beginning, this book becomes more and more useful all the time. The recipes in this book are for people evolving toward a lifestyle change, in my opinion.

I like all the wheat belly books. I have 3 of them. I have both the actual book and kindle version. I purchased the kindle version first. But sometimes I just like having the actually book especially when cooking. I like that the kindle version means no mess but sometimes i feel like you don't always get everything in the kindle.

Anyway I like the wheat belly books. Cuttingvout wheat and gluten products is not an easy thing to do especially for a bread lover. I know you can make your own without the wheat. I have made the flaxseed wraps several times. I will say do not expect it to taste the same. I notice a big difference hinger wise and weight wise when i did cut out wheat and gluten. It takes time and effort. You will have to most likely actually cook a lot more to fully benefit. But if you want to do it i recommend this book, the original wheat belly cookbook and the original wheat belly book. They have a ton of information. It really makes you rethink wheat products.

My dad suffers joint and knee problems all of which are triggered from wheat products. He has cut the wheat and is actually why i read the original "Wheat Belly" book in the first place. His health improved dramatically and he lost weight.

First of all, if you are using this eating plan to lose weight, beware of some of the recipes in this book. Yes, they are easy to make and most are very tasty. However, when you look at the serving size and amount of calories and fat grams, you have to wonder how healthy some of the recipes really are. I'm in very good health. However, at 68 female, have dealt with weight issues for 20 years, my numbers are creeping up and I don't want to have to ever take meds for health issues. That and the fact I wanted to lose 20 lbs. (I'd have been thrilled with 10 as I'm not too overweight), encouraged me to look further into this way of eating. I''m realizing I was seriously gluten intolerant and am happy to see the bloating and some achiness gone. What I'm not at all happy about is that even after 10 weeks of eating this way - no slip ups, no bad oils, potatoes, sugar, etc. - very disciplined - I've lost about 3 pounds. There is just no way one can eat all the fats, creams, cheeses, etc. listed here and still lose weight. Dr. Davis says there no need to count calories. Well, I don't know what medical school he attended. What I do know is that when I eat excessive calories which include even healthy fats, I don't lose weight. So it's back to watching every bite I eat if I intend to lose weight. Nothing new here!

Now about the recipes.....this is a very expensive way of eating. I've been eating organic, high quality foods for several years so have gotten used to paying more for quality. Wheat Belly is really a stretch. I justify it because I'm eating out less, picking up no foods/snacks on the run, am not buying impulse treats which does offset the cost. Still, $45 for 5 llbs of almond flour is pricey as are the creams, cream cheeses (I'm probably buying 5 times more of these than I used to buy), and eggs.....you will use LOTS of eggs and I buy organic eggs so that price factors in as well. The two of us spend about $500 a month on food and we could spend more if I didn't have a freezer half full of venison. Be prepared to cook....often! This cook book says the recipes can be prepared in 30 minutes or less. That's an exaggeration. Most take 15 minutes or so longer. And eating out whether at a restaurant or someone's home becomes quite a balancing act. I visited relatives over the holidays and brought a cooler full of food we would be able to eat.

Bottom line here - I do feel better and feel like I'm eating a healthy a diet as I possibly could. For that reason alone, I'll stick with this. I'm going to cut down on fats, cheeses, and the high calorie snacks in this book. I'll remain gluten/grain/sugar free and will limit carbs. Understand, however, that eating healthy foods has been a life long endeavor and I'm a very disciplined person. My wife would have thrown in the towel on this one by Week 2.

... because I had gotten rid of a lot of bad intestinal symptoms after I gave up gluten

Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2014

I ordered this book because I had gotten rid of a lot of bad intestinal symptoms after I gave up gluten, so I figured this may be helpful. I also saw a TV show with the author, and it all made sense. After reading almost all of this book, I have second thoughts. I will still eliminate gluten from wheat and other cereals. However, a great deal of the book is devoted to what to do if you do not lose the weight. It seems to me that if you eliminate wheat, barley, oats, corn, rye, rice, and other grass-grain cereals from your diet, you are eliminating a lot of carbohydrate calories. That alone, should make you lose weight. If you do not, something else is going on, or you are compensating by eating other high caloric foods, such as red meats, or cheeses, or ice cream, or eggs, or a lot of nuts and beans. The author thinks the failure to lose weight may be due to damage done to your body after years of eating these cereals. But, maybe it is damage done to the body after years of just living?? His answer, if I read this correctly, relies on eliminating sugars and fats, and taking mineral and vitamin supplements such as zinc, magnesium, vitamin, calcium, etc. Let's see: No wheat, no corn, no rice, no rye, no barley, no oats, no sugar, no fats, and dietary supplements. That's a starvation regime, isn't it? How many nuts and beans can you eat before you get stomach discomfort? I know I would be in trouble in no time. And how about his recommendation to take lots of vitamin d? (The amount he recommends is very high.) That does not make sense to me at all. The evidence for the benefits of oral vitamin d supplementation is not as clear as some people would have us believe, and there is some evidence that non-whites may metabolize vitamin d differently. Secondly, oral vitamin d enters the body in a manner that is unusual, since few foods contain it. While it eventually converts to exactly the same chemical active form, it is different when it enters the body, it does so via a different organ, it is transported to the liver with lipoproteins(fats) instead of via vit-d receptors, and it gets there a lot faster. How does he know that the genetic makeup of some people do not cause their bodies to react to this oral form of vitamin d as if it were a toxin - which in some cases it might be? What if their bodies produce fat in order to trap what their genetic wisdom tells them should not be there? (By the way, at least one study demonstrated that some polymorphisms of the vitamin d receptor genes cause people to have excess body fat weight.) If that sounds too farfetched, it is no more farfetched than his explanation that grass cereals are to blame for a list of maladies so long, that one would expect a race of immortals without it. I will continue to stay away from gluten because it has provided obvious benefits to my health and comfort. But for the rest, I am not so eager to recommend this book.
