From the bestselling author of In an Instant comes the moving story of a family grappling with grief and a woman with the power to help them through it―or stand in their way.

After a tragic accident claims the life of one of her children, Marie Egide is desperate to carve out a fresh start for her family. With her husband and their three surviving children, Marie travels to New Hampshire, where she plans to sell a family estate and then, just maybe, they’ll be able to heal from their grief.

Marie’s plans are thwarted when she realizes a war veteran known by locals as “the river witch” is living in a cabin on the property, which she claims was a gift from Marie’s grandfather. If Davina refuses to move on, Marie won’t be able to either.

The two women clash, and battle lines are drawn within Marie’s family and the town as each side fights for what they believe is right, the tension rising until it reaches its breaking point. And the choice is no longer theirs when a force bigger than them all―fate―takes control.

The story is written honestly and beautifully. Each character is described in such detail and each with their own voice that made me laugh and cry, feel angry and frustrated. Thank you Suzanne for writing such a heart wrenching tale.

This amazing novel is perfectly written with some twists and turns that will make your head spin and your heart ache and smile at the same time. I’m still smiling through tears as I write this review (my first one). Suzanne Redfearn has crafted a captivating story that I’m sure I’ll read over and over again. As I’m sure my review implies, it’s DEFINITELY worth a read, or 16.

I was recommended this book on KU, so I went in with no expectations and not sure if I would like it bc it's not my normal genre, however I absolutely loved it. I fell in love with the characters, their growth, the hurt and the pain, the depth and life lessons.

I know by some of these reviews that people either loved or DNF'D and I say just give it a chance, you may just fall in love with these people as I did.

I enjoyed this book because it makes you realize that life can throw some very troubling circumstances into your life unexpectedly. A good family’s tragic loss brings them in contact with a woman who also had tremendous losses in life. These misunderstood circumstances places these two people on different sides. This causes even more loss for both of them. Through these traumatic situations, major life lessons are learned. Not just for the adults, but also for the children that were part of the story. Without going any further and giving you spoilers, this is a book you do not want to miss out on reading! The audio vision is fantastic also!

The storyline flows nicely throughout and the characters well developed. Without rereading a part of the story, I can’t figure out one of the incidents but that doesn’t ruin my enjoyment of this well written book.
