Everything he knows about his wife is called into question when she mysteriously vanishes in a breathtaking novel of suspense by Amazon Charts bestselling author Chad Zunker.

Widower Luke Driskell didn’t expect to fall in love and marry again so quickly. But Ashley and her daughter, Joy, are special—a quality borne out when Ashley rushes into a burning day-care center to save the children. Immediately she’s a social media sensation and hero. Then, just as suddenly, Ashley and Joy disappear into the bitterly cold night.

With no trace of their whereabouts, Luke begins a panicked investigation. Alarmingly, he can find no proof that the woman he loves even exists. Left behind: just a hidden stash of fake IDs. Different names. Different cities. Same haunted face. Now the devastated husband has only questions: Who did he marry? What is she hiding?

Luke’s cross-country pursuit of the truth soon spins into something more dangerous than he imagined. Because Ashley’s secrets run so deep and dark that finding her could threaten all their lives.

REVIEW :

First books by this author for me were All He Has Left (‘23 - 3 Stars due to being only 206 pages and not enough time to develop the characters) and Family Money (‘22 - 4 Stars).

Even though only 205 pages, the authors writing drew me right in. I even felt close to the characters very quickly. Plot kept me excited to see what would happen next in the hunt for Ashley & Joy. Very enjoyable !

I read this in one day!! Super interesting and intriguing. I love how the husband didn’t stop looking for Ashley and Joy. The end of the book felt a bit rush though, I didn’t like that. But the book, the story was good. The audiobook is 4 hours.

Fast-paced and far-fetched

I’ve read all of Chad Zunker’s books and this one was my least favorite.

Things I liked:

  • It was fast-paced from the beginning.
  • I was able to finish most of it in one day.
  • It’s an easy read if you want something to read on a plane ride or listen to. It doesn’t require a lot of concentration.
  • The narrators did a good job and were easy to understand.
  • I liked the references to TX including Rice and SMU.
  • It included a lot of different places and geography.

Things I didn’t like:

  • It was all from Luke’s POV and Ashley’s perspective wasn’t included except at the beginning.
  • It was hard to keep up with all the characters besides Luke, Ashley and Joy.
  • Joy’s age behavior was too advanced for a 3-year old.
  • It was far-fetched.
  • The ending was not realistic.
