From Jim Collins, the most influential business thinker of our era, comes an ambitious upgrade of his classic, Beyond Entrepreneurship , that includes all-new findings and world-changing insights.
What's the roadmap to create a company that not only survives its infancy but thrives, changing the world for decades to come?
Nine years before the publication of his epochal bestseller Good to Great, Jim Collins and his mentor, Bill Lazier, answered this question in their bestselling book, Beyond Entrepreneurship.
Beyond Entrepreneurship left a definitive mark on the business community, influencing the young pioneers who were, at that time, creating the technology revolution that was birthing in Silicon Valley. Decades later, successive generations of entrepreneurs still turn to the strategies outlined in Beyond Entrepreneurship to answer the most pressing business questions.
BE 2.0 is a new and improved version of the book that Jim Collins and Bill Lazier wrote years ago. In BE 2.0, Jim Collins honors his mentor, Bill Lazier, who passed away in 2005, and reexamines the original text of Beyond Entrepreneurship with his 2020 perspective.
The book includes the original text of Beyond Entrepreneurship, as well as four new chapters and fifteen new essays. BE 2.0 pulls together the key concepts across Collins' thirty years of research into one integrated framework called The Map. The result is a singular reading experience, which presents a unified vision of company creation that will fascinate not only Jim's millions of dedicated readers worldwide, but also introduce a new generation to his remarkable work.

About the Author
Jim Collins has produced a succession of transformative leadership books, notably Good to Great, Built to Last, How the Mighty Fall, and Great by Choice, which form the centerpiece of every leadership library around the world. Jim Collins himself has become the world's leading thinker on what makes great companies tick, and a Socratic advisor to CEOs and leaders worldwide.
Jim Collins
Jim Collins is a student and teacher of what makes great companies tick, and a Socratic advisor to leaders in the business and social sectors. Having invested more than a quarter century in rigorous research, he has authored or coauthored a series of books that have sold in total more than 10 million copies worldwide. They include Good to Great, the #1 bestseller, which examines why some companies make the leap and others don’t; the enduring classic Built to Last, which discovers why some companies remain visionary for generations; How the Mighty Fall, which delves into how once-great companies can self-destruct; and Great by Choice, which uncovers the leadership behaviors for thriving in chaos and uncertainty. Jim has also published two monographs that extend the ideas in his primary books: Good to Great and the Social Sectors and Turning the Flywheel.
His most recent publication is BE 2.0 (Beyond Entrepreneurship 2.0), an ambitious upgrade of his very first book; it returns Jim to his original focus on small, entrepreneurial companies and honors his coauthor and mentor Bill Lazier.
Driven by a relentless curiosity, Jim began his research and teaching career on the faculty at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he received the Distinguished Teaching Award in 1992. In 1995, he founded a management laboratory in Boulder, Colorado, where he conducts research and engages with CEOs and senior-leadership teams.
In addition to his work in the business sector, Jim has a passion for learning and teaching in the social sectors, including education, healthcare, government, faith-based organizations, social ventures, and cause-driven nonprofits. In 2012 and 2013, he had the honor to serve a two-year appointment as the Class of 1951 Chair for the Study of Leadership at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Jim holds a bachelor's degree in mathematical sciences and an MBA from Stanford University, and honorary doctoral degrees from the University of Colorado and the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University. In 2017, Forbes selected Jim as one of the 100 Greatest Living Business Minds.

My Appreciation to Jim Collin’s - A Great Coach
Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2022

I love Collins’ principles, metaphors and examples in his writing. My colleagues and I have many of Collins’ books, well worn and often quoted, open on the desk or handy on the bookshelf close by. The advice and leadership therein have helped create three private companies, now merged into a global business with offices in 17 countries. Somehow, we missed “Beyond Entrepreneurship”, version 1.0. I first downloaded 2.0 on Kindle. That primed the pump. I quickly picked up 5 copies for key executives in the organization. Subject matter thereof is beginning to emerge in emails and across the conference tables of the business. Judging from the number of existing Jim Collins books across the company, I bet there will soon be 200 copies, or more, in manager’s offices soon. It’s a great book to reinforce and teach business principles that have brought us success through the years. I recommend it.

Your Choices Make a Difference

Jim Collins, a business educator does it again - taking his research and making it practical for anyone leading an organization. Collins, using the book he and Bill Lazier wrote years earlier, reminds his readers that starting with core values is essential to building a great organization, because while missions, visions, and strategies may change over time, the core values are what sets the organization apart. Yet, Collins in his updated chapters adds the newest research about how building from values will enhance mission, vision and strategy.
Since I started reading Collins in the 90's and having watched videos, and heard him speak in person, I have never been disappointed in the practicality of his teaching, founded on solid research. That's true in this book as well. The choices we make as leaders do affect our organizations.
I'm thankful I read this book as it will influence my teaching. The choices I make do make a difference.
