Life is never black and white.
One minute you’re a struggling graphic designer in LA that's finally coming to terms with being single forever, and the next you're flying to New York in a private jet to get engaged to your ex-boyfriend’s older brother.
At least...that’s what everyone thinks.
Forced to clean up his playboy image in order to protect his company, Beckham Sinclair, the city’s most eligible billionaire bachelor, wants me to be his fake fiancée and personal assistant.
Now I'm spending every spare second with a man I thought I’d never see again.
My freshly mended heart has barely recovered from the first time a Sinclair broke it. But with each passing day, Beck’s dirty mouth and lingering stares make me question his motives—and mine.
As the line blurs between real and pretend, only one thing is certain: there are secrets hiding in this city full of black ties and white lies.
Black Ties and White Lies is a billionaire, fake relationship, forced proximity, and ex's older brother novel and a complete standalone by Kat Singleton.

CHAPTER 1
MARGO
“Margo, Margo, Margo.”
A familiar voice startles me from my computer screen. Spinning in my office chair I find my best friend, Emma, hunched over the wall of my cubicle. Her painted red lips form a teasing grin.
Pulling the pen I was chewing on out of my mouth, I narrow my eyes at her suspiciously. “What?”
She licks her teeth, flicking the head of the Nash Pierce bobblehead she bought me ages ago. “Who did you piss off this time?”
My stomach drops, and I don’t even know what she’s talking about. “Are you still drunk?” I accuse, thinking about the wine we consumed last night. We downed two bottles of cheap pinot grigio with our roommate and best friend, Winnie. Split between the three of us, there’s no way she’s still tipsy, but it’s the best I could come up with.
She scoffs, her face scrunching in annoyance. “Obviously not. I was refilling my coffee in the lounge when Darla had asked if I’d seen you.”
I stifle an eye roll. Darla knew I’d be at one of two places. I’m always either at my desk or huddled in front of the coffee maker trying to get the nectar of the gods to keep me awake.
Darla knew exactly where to find me.
She just didn’t want to.
You accidentally put water in the coffee bean receptacle instead of the carafe and suddenly the office receptionist hates you. It’s not like I meant to break it. It’s not my fault it wasn’t made clear on the machine what went where. I was just trying to help.
“I haven’t heard from her,” I comment, my eyes flicking to Darla’s desk. She’s not there, but her phone lights up with an incoming call. Darla rarely leaves her desk. It isn’t a good sign that she’s nowhere in sight. The sky could be falling, and I’m not sure Darla would leave her perch.
Emma rounds the wall of my cubicle, planting her ass on my desk like she’s done a million times before, even though I’ve asked her not to just as many times.
“I’m working.” Reaching out, I smack her black stiletto, forcing her foot off the armrest of my chair.
She laughs, playfully digging her heel into my thigh. “Well, Darla, that amazing woman, told me the boss wants to see you.”
“I thought Marty was out for meetings all day today?”
Emma bites her lip, shaking her head at me. “No, like the boss, boss. The head honcho. Bossman. I think it’s somebody new.”
She opens her mouth to say something else, but I cut her off. “That can’t be right.”
“Margo!” Darla barks from the doors of our conference room. I almost jump out of my chair from the shrill tone of her voice.
Emma’s eyes are wide as saucers as she looks from Darla back to me. “Seriously, Mar, what did you do?”
I slide my feet into my discarded heels underneath my desk. Standing up, I wipe my hands down the front of my skirt. I hate that my palms are already clammy from nerves. “I didn’t do anything,” I hiss, apparently forgetting how to walk in heels as I almost face-plant before I’m even out of the security of my cubicle.
She annoyingly clicks her tongue, giving me a look that tells me she doesn’t believe me. “Obviously, I knew we had people higher up than Marty, they’re just never here. I wonder what could be so serious…”
“You aren’t helping.”
There’s no time for me to go back and forth with my best friend since college any longer. Darla has her arms crossed over her chest in a way that tells me if I don’t haul ass across this office and meet her at the door in the next thirty seconds, she’s going to make me regret it.
I come to a stop in front of the five-foot woman who scares me way more than I’d care to admit. She frowns, her jowls pronounced as she glares at me.
Despite the dirty look, I smile sweetly at her, knowing my mama told me to always kill them with kindness. “Good morning, Darla,” I say, my voice sickeningly sweet.
Her frown lines get deeper. “I don’t even want to know what you did to warrant his visit today,” she clips.
Your guess is as good as mine, Darla.
“Who?” I try to look into the conference room behind her, but the door is shut.
Weird. That door is never closed.
"Why don’t you find out for yourself?” Grabbing the handle, she opens the door. Her body partially blocks the doorway, making me squeeze past her to be able to get in.
Whoever this he is, doesn’t grant me the luxury of showing me his face. He stands in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, his hands in the pockets of the perfectly tailored suit that molds to his body effortlessly. I haven’t even seen the guy’s face but everything about him screams wealth. Even having only seen him from behind, I can tell that he exudes confidence. It’s in his stance—the way he carries his shoulders, his feet slightly apart as he stares out the window. Everything about his posture screams business. I’m just terrified why his business is my business.
When they said boss, they really meant it. Oh boy.
What have I done?
Even the sound of the door shutting behind me doesn’t elicit movement from him. It gives me time to look him up and down from the back. If I wasn’t already terrified that I was in trouble for something I don’t even remember doing, I’d take a moment to appreciate the view.
I mean damn. I didn’t know that suit pants could fit an ass so perfectly.
I risk another step into the conference room. Looking around, I confirm it’s just me and the mystery man with a nice ass in the empty space.
Shaking my head, I attempt to stop thinking of the way he fills the navy suit out flawlessly. From what I’ve been told, he’s my boss. The thoughts running through my head are anything but work appropriate.
“Uh, hello?” I ask cautiously. My feet awkwardly stop on the other side of the large table from him. I don’t know what to do. If I’m about to be fired, do I sit down first or just keep standing and get it over with?
I wonder if they’ll give me a box to put my stuff in.
His back stiffens. Slowly, he turns around.
When I finally catch a glimpse of his face, I almost keel over in shock.
Because the man standing in front of me—my apparent boss—is also my ex-boyfriend’s very attractive older brother.

At least it was for Beckham Sinclair. The first time he said eyes on Margo he knew she was the one for him but his little brother got in the way and he waited.
Beck is not a man to wait for fate to step in he put in motion steps to ensure that Margo would be his. But when love starts out with a little white lie and you don't correct it the Web of Lies become too much and you fear that the truth will come out.
Margo is unsure of Beck's intentions but soon she finds that the walls she built around her heart is slowly melting away because of backs words and actions. In this case actions speak louder than words and back fulfilled everything that he promised her and more.
Such a lovely spicy and hot Romance that I think I found another author that I'm really going to enjoy. I can't wait to find out about the rest of Margo's friends they sound like a great bunch of gals to call your best friend.

His lovely violet

Where to start? Margo and Beck have a long history. Much longer than she really knows. This book was so good. My emotions were all over the place. Not to mention the spice was top notch. This book will have you in your feelings from the start. So buckle up.
Beck is the oldest of the Sinclair brothers and the older brother of Margo’s ex boyfriend Carter. He has a security business and more money than he knows what to do with. The one thing he doesn’t have is the woman he’s fawned over for years, his Violet aka Margo. When Margo finds out that her boyfriend Carter had been cheating on her, their whole relationship she understandably doesn’t answer Becks calls. This resorts to him doing something crazy.
Margo is a sweet funny artist who’s stuck being a graphic designer for a security company in a city she hates. Until Beck walks back into her life and offers her the chance to have a once in a lifetime opportunity. Be his fiancee and help clean up his act. In return he will put in a good word with his best friend to get her artwork seen by one of the top artist around and get her back to the city she love. All she has to do it be his assistant and pretend to fall in love with him. It won’t be hard since he’s gorgeous. But we all know how that turns out.
From the beginning of the book the dirty talk starts and it’s beautiful. But the way Beck talks about her is more than that. He sees her in ways no one else does. The plot is so sweet but steamy and when crap hits the fan well that’s when you start really rooting for him to figure this out.
I’m only sad we didn’t get more or have her make a photo of them with their babies because I need all the feels! I hope I get glimpses in the next books.

Romance at it's best

This was a really well written romance between Beck and Margo. Different take on a man falling in love and pursuing a woman, held my attention all the way through. I like that the author focused on the couple so you got to understand them as adults without a bunch of silly interferences. When the rough times hit, though tough Margo was able to work through his explanation and understand finally. The premise of the story is hard to accept, but I liked the way the author handled it. Nice spice. My favorite kind of HEA. The constant banter between the two allowed her to stand up for herself so he learned she was n a pushover. Really loved this book, may reread😍

Beckham Sinclair could show up unexpectedly and sweep me off my feet any day. I’ll be waiting on my billionaire just like I’m still waiting on that Hogwarts letter.
Our main girl Margo, witty, artistic and recovering from a heartbreak by twat waffle Carter is working business as usual one day when she’s called to the head Bosses office. To her astonishment, in the conference room is Beckham “Beck” Sinclair. Her ex’s brother, demanding to know why she’s ignoring him, while dropping the news that he is her new boss, she is getting a promotion and also another tiny thing… he needs her to be his fake fiancée and move to NYC in a week.
Beck has not stopped thinking about Margo since she came to the Hamptons with his brother last summer. He will stop at nothing to make her his so when an opportunity to clean up his image presents it self he makes her an offer she’d be crazy to turn it down. Secretly he hopes she acknowledges their chemistry, that her feelings will become real as they are for him, but until then he will take her as long as he can get her.
The slow burn and sexual tension is palpable, Carter thinks he can weasel his way back in, lines are blurred and secrets revealed. Can Margo and Beck face the truth of what they have or is it all really just a contract/ a game to save face? You’ll have to read to find out.
This book checked all my boxes, the slow burn was perfection, the spice sprinkled throughout, the banter and character growth were my two favorite things. I felt so many emotions reading this but I think my cheeks are permanently blushed from Beck’s dirty mouth. I laughed, gasped, teared up, swooned and got angry. The twists were not expected for me and once I got to them I was shook.
Kat, these MMC’s have been simply superior. It was my honor to read Beck and Margo’s story. Albeit I went out of order and read about Winnie and Archer first. Let’s just say both are swoon worthy.

A Great Summer Read

I enjoyed almost everything about this book. Normally I steer clear of brother relationships cuz it gives me the ick but this book is so well written that I got over it. The hero is alpha, sexy, grumpy and a bit dirty. I loved him and the heroine is smart, sassy and likable. Great dialogue. Funny moments and outrageous sexual chemistry. You won't be able to put it down.
