Emma Frederick bolts upright in bed, pulse racing. It must be a bad dream.

Except it’s not.

Crrrrrreeeeeeeeaaaaaaakkkkkkk.

The sound of the loose step sends her body into overdrive, and she rushes for the secret room behind the wall. The screech of old hinges echoes through the house as he enters her bedroom.

He starts whistling.

Three blind mice. Three blind mice.

She slaps a hand over her mouth, stifling her scream.

He’s coming for her, but that can’t be.

She killed him last month.

About the Author

Julie McKay is a Los Angeles-based narrator with New York roots, a degree in music, and a background in classical theater. As an actor, she has worked at Shakespeare festivals and regional theaters across the country as well as Off-Broadway in New York.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jana DeLeon was raised in southwest Louisiana among the bayous and gators. Her hometown is Carlyss, but you probably won't find it on a map. Her family owned a camp located on a bayou just off the Gulf of Mexico that you could only get there by boat. The most important feature was the rope hammock hanging in the shade on a huge deck that stretched out over the water where Jana spent many hours reading books.

Jana and her brother spent thousands of hours combing the bayous in a flat-bottom aluminum boat, studying the natural habitat of many birds, nutria and alligators. She would like you to know that no animals were injured during these "studies," but they kept makers of peroxide in business.

Jana has never stumbled across a mystery or a ghost like her heroines, but she's still hopeful.

She now resides in Dallas, Texas, with the most spoiled Sheltie in the world.

Jana DeLeon has a style that pulls the reader into the story from the very first page. This book was no different. Twists and turns through the entire book kept me on the edge of my seat. Looking forward to the next in this series.

Shaye Archer moved to New Orleans to open her own private investigator office. She’s young and has limited criminal investigative expertise, but she’s determined to help others heal after tragedy. … Emma is no stranger to tragedy. Her husband David served in Iran, but upon his return he was a changed man. Emma knew she had to defend herself against him. Now after David’s death someone is after her. The police don’t believe her so she hired Shaye. This is Shaye’s first case as a private investigator. Solving this case will help build a reputation amongst law enforcement that she’s capable for someone young and limited. … Jana DeLoan writes a fantastic book about Shaye. This is book one in the series. It’s a great beginning into the life of Shaye as a private investigator who is haunted by her own past. In the upcoming books readers will have more answers regarding Shaye’s past. … Julie McKay is the solo female performer who is the voice of Shaye. There’s no better way to enjoy a book of this type than with a great voice actor performing the words the way they were meant to be read. I’m an eyes and ears person who requires both the ebook and audiobook to enhance my experience. Together with good writing and good voice talent a book is just words on a page until an actor comes along and puts those words into action.m
